Out-of state purchase returning to CA

I don't think this is the right place for the question but I need some help please. I currently live in PA and I will be moving back to CA at the end of July. My question is, can I purchase a rifle that is CA complaint and have it sent to me here through an authorized FFL? If so, before I return to CA would I still need to transfer the rifle back to CA using my FFL user? If so, would the rifle still be considered legal under CA law considering CA says I can not bring an "assault rifle" into the state. I would probably be better off waiting but the current situation and reading up on CA bill to make the "bullet button" feature illegal. Again thanks for any help you can give me.

This would be best suited for the FFL forum, where you can get knowledgeable info from the right people. This sounds like a big hassle. Just buy a CA Compliant rifle when you get here. July is only one month away and CA laws won't change in the mean time. Also keep in mind that CA Compliant rifles are not considered "assault weapons."

if you are currently a PA resident, you may purchase any PA-legal rifle you wish, including a rifle that is set up to be CA-compliant. (ie, not an AW) if you wish. you can have that transfered to you in PA.

then, if you move to CA, you are now a new-resident importer and you follow those rules, which do allow you to import your previously-owned firearms. no additional FFL is needed. if it is in a CA-legal format, then it isn't an assault weapon.

edit: true, probably easier to just wait a month to purchase. but then you have to get you CA ID/DL and Firearms Safety Card before you can purchase.
