Inactive Shooter - East Bay, CA

Well there's my confession, I haven't seen myself to a range of any sort in about a year. Basically since my kid was born. I finally hit a gun store, the new Solar Tactical location, with my BILs last week and got excited about possibly making a few new acquisitions. However, I'm unmotivated to make the drive to any of our "local" ranges. Sitting on a bench and punching paper just gets repetitive for me since I'm not interested in scoped rifles and high precision shooting.

I'd like to perhaps take the leap into doing those handgun shooting sessions where you are timed and move around but I don't know where to start and I don't have any points of contact. Any insight from you East Bay area gunners?

Don't know about your specific area, but check the websites for IDPA, USPSA, or even look into Cowboy Action Shooting.

There are others to be found. A good place to start would be NSSF

Richmond is Bay Area's USPSA range. Club matches are held every 1st and 3rd Sundays (and Saturdays if you pre-reg). You have to take a safety class before participating in a match. More info can be found at www.richmondhotshots.com

Twin Sisters Action Pistol (TAP) in Fairfield holds its matches on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. Since Chabot will close soon, TASC has moved to TAP and regularly holds matches there also. Lately, TAP has 3-gun matches on the 4th Saturday. Again, a safety class is needed before participating in any matches. More info can be found at www.twinsistersactionpistol.com

I do not go to a static range anymore unless I need to function test, develop a load, or practice (if I cannot get to an action bay). Action pistol / multi-gun is really exciting.

It's been far too long for me too. I'm going to the range on Saturday.

Went to Chabot for the first time 10 days ago. Really nice/beautiful place to shoot. Need a sports car next time to take Redwood Rd as my truck just wasn't appropriate for that kind of driving.

Same here. Or Target Masters (during the day, only!)

Thanks guys. Sounds good. I moved here over a year ago and still haven't been to Chabot! And I'm only 10 minutes away. The Richmond club sounds like a good place to start and learn.

Let me know when you have time, I am almost always down to go to Chabot. If I am in town I will probably go Saturday

I have an excuse..."the ole gray mare she ain't what she used to be".

Sadly, I'm winding down. With the current political climate...ugh.

Pre kids - four practices and four events per month plus plinking.

Post kids - "your going shooting again? Didn't you just go last year?"
