What is your preferred lock for dealing with TSA

There is no "preferred lock". Assuming you're locking guns in the case, you keep the only key. I like small brass Master locks, but I think it's not a difficult decision.

I bought a set of four Master locks that were all keyed alike. I lock the case with two of them and put the other two inside the case. I leave a note inside pointing to the spares so that if TSA has to cut my locks for any reason, they can re-lock it.

They cannot legally open the case without you there with the key. Do not get a TSA lock for your firearm case. Get TSA locks for the checked bag(s).

That said if they break the rules and cut your lock do as above and have extras with a note in the case.

Frank has a great idea. They've always announced my name whenever they wanted to look inside again, but some a real idiots. Extras are a great idea. I had a rear PITA with TSA in Anchorage on way back to Sac a few years ago. A jerk just be a jerk. I ran into a really cool TSA agent at SFO about 6 years ago headed to Africa. 250lb 5' tall bull dyke. She verified our we were unloaded and then asked us all kinds of questions about our double rifles. She thought they were beautiful and super cool. She had a great time talking guns ith us and wanted to buy one. Don't judge a book by it's cover ya never know...

I used four different locks from different manufacturers. That way if someone is trying to get in it will take a while. When all four are the same if they are able to pick one they can pick all of them quickly.

I do put the extra locks in the case with a note for the TSA. Another thing is to tape your name, email, and phone # under the foam and leave another loose copy in the middle of the case. If your case is lost this will give you a better chance of getting it back.

I actually had a TSA agent thank me for using four locks on my case. Apparently people show up with just one lock and the ends of the case can be pried open.
