Why havent we started a legit militia?

A way to bolster the argument of the anti that the 2a applies only to a militia. OP is not intentionally doing that, but I believe that's what would happen. Aka " look, even the gun nuts think it's restricted to a militia, that's why they're starting one"

A militia is not a paramilitary (in the context of that section) organization. I am a militia member and have commanded a militia in the past. Real bunch of thugs we are too, teachers, doctors, nurses and a whole host of other completely normal peaceful people. The purpose of Calguns is to act as a forum and an advocacy group and their mission would be compromised by seeking to form a militia. True militia's, in the original American sense, are local community groups that coalesce for the purpose of helping their neighbors in times of crisis, natural or man made. They are not vigilantes or groups of people who plan to hole up at the first sign of trouble and shoot anyone that comes within 300 yards. The American militia tradition is one of community service and preparedness and all you need to do to form one is get together with friends and other like-minded people and do two things, first make sure you have the preparations to take care of yourself and second be prepared and trained to help take care of others. Being a militiaman is as much a personal philosophy as it is a group activity.
