    Book editor.

I am looking for a book editor, or copy editor (probably both). I sent an email to a magazine that covers the subject I am writing about, but they never replied to me. (I checked my spam folder too)

My book is about gun ownership. That's as much I'll say about it right now. This is my first book, and I'm having trouble finding an editor online that covers my subject. I tried looking at the editors of some books that I have read, but they're not in the descriptions, at least not on Amazon. I will be self publishing my book. I have a few beta readers reading it right now, for the first series of draft edits.

I feel like there's some critical piece of information I am missing when looking for an editor. Does anyone have any experience in finding an editor?

I believe Amazon has self publishing services and you should be able to get an editor through them.

If you want to higher a professional gun book editor I think you're going to have an issue of budget.

Get an agent. Both my parents were published and it was a long process.

I got lucky and had a agent come to me and we got the book published. As BigPimping stated it is a long process. I made the mistake of signing a low $$$ contract and forgoing any royalties from sales.

In my current job I deal with "Book of One", one-off printing. I am making this happen. Amazon has a self-publish service that is good. You get everything, even an ISBN.

In the past I wrote or was editor for some big user manuals, in the 500 page range. Full index, table of content, list of figures, prologue, postscript, etc. Before that I wrote some large-ish papers in the 100+ page range.

The current crop of tools makes it way easier to do the mechanical aspects of making a book. If you really understand InDesign and book design, or even just OpenOffice and book design, you can crank out a 100 page book in a fortnight. If you have a team (with a technical leader) you can crank out a 500 page book in the same time.

At work I have access to several digital web presses, sheeter/stacker and a bindery. So I can print and bind books in minutes. I am on the cutting edge, and making that cutting edge software.

Since the mechanics are so easy now, the main problems are content, editing and politics. If you can create the content, you still need an editor. You will also still need a web site to promote the book.

I know exactly one no-nonsense fast, honest, smart editor. She is anti-gun, and you will find a lot of that.

Ask John Lott or Clayton Cramer who they use for editors.

What about the 19th? Can the Commerce Clause be used to make it illegal for voting women to buy shoes from another state?

I will be using their self publishing service, as well as another. I'll see if they have an editor service.

Thank you man! That's exciting. I plan to do both the physical paperback, and an e-book. That is, after I find an editor...

On and off for at least 5 years I have thought about making a book template to be used with InDesign. The template would be something like 15 chapters, master file, a style, and some other details. Each chapter would have three sections and generic text. There would be TOC, index, images and figures, with hot links.

In order to make a book, just add basic information, then add content. Delete extra chapters and add sections. Add images, and use the same style to reference the images.

Since the template behavior would be well known, the "printability" of the book would be known in advance. Perhaps add a custom preflight setup for Acrobat Pro. Add a template for a wordpress site, where the template can read all the parts.

With this structure in hand, the only thing missing is the content, and of course editing. Apply the package to Amazon, and then publish the ISBN and amazon link on the web site.

Instant book, minus the actual content. How much is this worth to the budding author? There is a business model hidden there someplace.

I'm looking at some book editor websites. Most of it is novel based.

This site lists editors by topic, but nothing on my topic, of course. http://www.book-editing.com/subjects.html

I emailed John Lott and Clayton Cramer. Hopefully they reply.

EDIT: John replied. He says his books were edited by the publishers, and that his new book is going to be edited by someone else. He provided me with that persons email address.
