Is a lock on your range bag good for locked firearms. "no cable locks"
Must ammunition be in separate bag ?

I have never used a cable lock for anything, just use a nice lockable case/bag

For the safety class, unloaded and in a locked container. Additionally, do not bring any ammo, there shouldn't be any need for it.
For the range day, if 25635 applies, it must be unloaded. If it doesn't, unloaded and in a locked container.

ARTICLE 3. Conditional Exemptions [25505 - 25595]

25505. In order for a firearm to be exempted under this article, while being transported to or from a place, the firearm shall be unloaded and kept in a locked container, and the course of travel shall include only those deviations between authorized locations as are reasonably necessary under the circumstances.
