    Question For Fire Clean Users

Has anyone here bought Fire Clean since the Crisco allegations/revelations hit the internet? Whether or not it works well, I just can't bring myself to do it.

I use FireClean, works great. Haven't needed to buy more, but will when necessary.

The claim the original poster refers to is that gas chromatographs suggest Fire Clean is canola oil. (I don't have a trained eye, but the plots they show to support the claims look a bit different to me).

Checking the grocery store, I find food-grade Canola oils in least three levels, rated according to what heat level they are "refined" to support.

Some grades are indicated for low heat cooking, others medium heat, and then there is a high heat version for sauteeing and frying "up to 450 degrees". The temperature limits refer to their "smoke points".

The high heat version includes lecithin on the ingredient list, which is not indicated on the lower heat versions.

It turns out canola oil is highly processed and goes through a refining process of bleaching, filtering and degumming with solvents, neutralizers, and deodorization in which omega-3 fatty acids that can turn rancid and get gummy are removed or converted to trans-fats.

This refining process progressively raises the smoke point to higher temperatures.

It may be that, if FireClean is canola oil, it has been refined to a higher level than is used for cooking. It doesn't smell like Crisco. And it may be non-toxic, but don't want to eat it.

Might be interesting to try "cooking grade" canola oils and see how they do in comparison. If it does as well as FireClean, great.

Fireclean lost my business with their hissy fit. Never saw a need for a super lube, if I need one it sure won't be Fireclean.

It worked well when I was using it.
T Mac still uses it and he runs more rounds than all of us combined.
I started using it a couple years ago, but it seemed to slow down the spin on my revolvers cylinders, so I stopped using it as a lubricant. I kept using it, though, to finish off my bores after cleaning them with solvents. I think it really does make subsequent cleanings easier. My bottle is almost empty now. I just don't know if I'll buy another if it's just $14.00 vegetable oil. I appreciate the offer, though.

The drama cont. For me, fireclean is gtg. I tend to look at how it sticks and drips for any gun oil of months in safe.

I used it and absolutely had it turn for lack of a better term, rancid.
It slowed slide function considerably on tight fitted 1911s after sitting on the rails/barrel/bushing unused for several months. Parts felt and appeared to be gummed up.
Fell for a very good friends hype and endorsement.

My gun stays lubricated with FireClean. And I even find it much easier to clean after use... It doesn't gum up in cold weather as well!

Staying with Slip 2k, that takes 1250 degrees.

Break Free CLP for lube and preservation, Hoppe's and Gun Scrubber for solvents. Works perfectly for me.

Totally gummed up my Benelli firing pin, spring, and channel. Light primer strikes everywhere, not good for hunting. Clicks don't kill birds.
