    VA disarming Vets Forbes article

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Senator Chuck Grassley fought for an amendment that would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to give veterans due process before taking away their Second Amendment rights. (MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty Images) Just weeks before Memorial Day, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, fought for an [...]

As much as it sucks to say it, if you got serious mental health issues or major PTSD, you really aren't able to safely handle a firearm. My GFs ex had ptsd and it led to drugs and eventually suicide. I'm glad he didn't own guns cuz she told me that he did get violent a few times
Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. Oversentimentality, oversoftness, washiness, and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people." Teddy Roosevelt

Agreed, it is a sad condemnation of how we are taking care of veterans more than anything.

I have a friend who lost the battle after the war so to speak. He wasn't in the best of shape towards the end and I don't think his 2A rights were much of a concern to him leading up to his death.

The answer is not taking away their rights, it's providing the care that they deserve and we are simply not doing that. We need to stop sending aid to other places in the world and start taking care of those who sacrificed and served our country, plain and simple.

I presume the VA is required to report PTSD and such? Who else is required to report "mental defects" to the feds? Are private practice psychiatrists required to report to the Feds . . or state?

This is an astute observation. And wasn't that a focus of one of the bills in congress after Sandy Hook? More strict reporting requirements for local authorities to the federal government on mental health adjudications?
