    Finger print activated safes

Has anyone had luck with these? Just been looking at varous safes for a pistol, was wondering how good the ones with the finger print reader are. Thanks

I've been thinking of getting one too. I use fingerprint scanners at work and some people have a really hard time with them. The other administrator at work will have to try 5-15 times to get his finger to read - mine reads with a half-butt attempt every single time. Something to do with the oils or something on his finger. He tries wiping his finger on his jeans and it doesn't seem to help. It's great fun torturing him with his inability to get the scanner to work.

My wife has a HP laptop with the finger scan do-dad. Sometimes it works for me right off the bat, other times it takes a couple of swipes for it to work.

I have had one mounted to the bed frame for a couple of years now. Was a Christmas present from wife & kids. Here is a link: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=431733. They are little on the pricy side but it is nice to keep a loaded firearm secured but ready at all times.

I have only seen a picture of the one I want for my bedroom. I would probably buy two and install one in my office as well.

It looks very simular to this one with the bio meteric fingerprint reader except that instead of just having shelves it is about half as tall and the gun pops up in a gun holder ready to grab after your finrger print open the safe.

I think they have one and two gun safes in this configuration and still has room at the bottom of the safe for some papers and maybe a couple of boxes of ammo or extra clips. In th bottom when opened it has a very small dim led light that barely highlights the guns features in the dark (this can be turned off or set to bright).

I have been looking in gum mags and shows but can only find other people who say they have seen it but can't remember who makes it or where to find it.

            I like combination or electronic.

Here is a good article on biometric security:

I have a Barska biometric safe. It's not expensive and works like a charm. It opens reliably (haven't had an issue opening it). It stores up to 30 fingerprints.

This thread should be moved into the safes subforum.
In general, all fingerprint based locks are pretty poor. They offer unreliable operation in combination to demonstrated ease of fingerprint duplication. That technology belongs in the archives of technological achievements.

They have a system like that at Universal Studios for locking your stuff up when going on certain rides. The girl had to unlock my locker manually. Hopefully those safes use better technology than whatever they were using 2 1/2 years ago.

Yep. Modern locks are way better. Many IT infrastructure setups use these to protect several thousand dollars worth of equipment.

A combination safe is better, you don't have to worry about batteries going dead or the power going out and you can put the first two numbers in advance so you only have to do a quick turn of the dial when needed. Its also quite easy to lift someones print and make a fake fingerprint.

Judging by the direction of this thread I appears no one here has any leads on where I might find the bio metric safe I described in my earlier posts?
