    First Time Buyer

    Hey Everyone,

I am new to Cal Guns (clearly) and am interested in purchasing a firearm via PPT in order to avoid the ugly LCI and menacing Magazine disconnect. I have never done this before and am curious if anyone has any suggestions to ensure it goes smoothly. I'm also curious if there are any scams to look out for. Thanks for your time!

Since you want to buy an off roster handgun you will need to conduct a face to face transaction which will help to cut down on some of the fraud. Make sure you have your FSC and two forms of ID ready and that those IDs have your correct address.

Meet at an FFL and examine the pistol. Some FFLs do not want you to exchange money inside so you may need to pay the seller before entering, providing the pistol checks out. Keep in mind that you may need to buy a lock from the FFL even if the pistol comes with a factory lock, as DOJ may not recognize that lock or the FFL may be confused about what locks are acceptable and will err on the side of caution.

Pick up your pistol after 10 days and enjoy.

      Do not go through Armslist.

Meet FTF (face to face) and inspect.

Do you have your FSC card?

Is your address up to date on your DL and second ID?

      Have cash ready to go.

        Face to face is key.

        Look for high iTrader seller.

High prices on off-roster firearms are not scams

        What are you looking for?

"High prices on off-roster firearms are not scams"

That doesn't matter anymore. Six months ago in state Saiga x39s were 550 at turner's. Now they're 800, if you can find them. Last time I looked there were three on Gunbroker. Supply and demand.

            Welcome, friend, to the forums.

Research a lot. Figure out what you want, off roster or not.

Make sure you have your ducks in a row. Proof of residence and what all.

Find it, see it, get it

            Shoot. Enjoy. Repeat.

I always had a great transaction. Make sure you bring proper forms. Call ahead as each FFL may allow only certain types.
