    Which concealable body armor?

Having read many posts on idiotic behaviour at the range, and a continuation of this thread:

I am beginning to think maybe it isn't that bad or paranoid of an idea to wear body armor at the range.
What concealable body armor are you guys using (regardless of whether you are going to the range or not)?

First, I have no intention of appearing mall-ninja-esque. Second, I agree, if the people at the range, are acting too much like idiots, its time to go elsewhere. Problem is - Targetmaster in Milpitas is sometimes the only indoor range open during the late hours when I can go shooting and when I want some indoor shotgun practice. Targetmasters seems to draw more of the yahoo crowd than the safer Davis street range. Lastly I am not even sure I will go out and buy body armor, so this might be more hypothetical than real.

Having prefaced everything, what real world experience or body armor do you own that you would recommend?

Bulletproofme.com has some really good prices on police surplus.

I wouldn't trust my life to surplus armor, especially the used stuff they have on there.

The more 'concealable' that body armor is, the more its going to cost and the more its going to hurt when you get hit. I used to work VIP details years ago, and the best thing you can do is get a well-fitted vest and an appropriate wardrobe if you are trying to look like you're not wearing kevlar. Get a good level II or IIa vest and wear it under an untucked shirt and light coat, you'll be GTG for what you're looking to do.

Second Chance body armor is pretty good, I currently have a level 2 vest, with strike plate in the front. The Oakland PD store sells the newer models of the same armor. Prices are around 700+, expensive but kinda hard to argue with your life. Hopefully I'll have some funds to upgrade mines to a level 3. GALLS.com sells some level 3 vests around the $400 range, not sure about how good those are. Don't think I want to bet my life on it.

Thanks forgot to mention on my original post, if I wore a vest it would be under a loosely fitted sweat shirt seeing as how all the indoor ranges are well ventilated and cold.

Wear a light coat/windbreaker, the areas around the shoulders are a dead giveaway with just a shirt.

+1 for Second Chance. They make some of the lightest and most comfortable level II and III vests that I have tried. They are pricey, and the company is very particular about who gets their vests so it may be tough finding one, but they are worth the money and the effort.

You'd need a Level III vest to stop that and there is no concealing that. You're far more likely to get hit with a pistol round anyways since people are usually more careless in handling them since they are smaller and lighter.
