Shooting AR with an eye patch, anyone?

I started off with the bad habit of one eye open only, but when I focused and practice it took only a few days to focus in my dominant eye with both eyes open, I can do it on my handgun sights or my rifle scope now, it's 2nd nature, I don't have to think or focus anymore. Definitely practice with both eyes, don't use the patch or it'll just become harder to retrain your brain.

This will be my next goal but will start with the "one eye patch" first. It's hard for me to envision myself shooting with both eyes open but I like the explaination on the youtube.

I've seen a few people use a rectangular piece of foam with a hole cut off to one end to fit over the eyepiece. The excess amount blocks the view of the other eye. 2"x8" roughly of foam 1/2" thick.

Ideally, you want some ambient light coming into that other eye. What I use for Service Rifle is a set of clear safety glasses with opaque scotch tape over the left lens on the inside. Scores improved.

I now understand how much lighting, vision you loose and the fatigue you get with one eye closed. Thanks to all who gave me a good advice which is way better than looking like a pirate.

I rely so much on one eye to keep the target in focus. Don't know how you guys can do it with both eyes open...

I shot my M14 in competition many times with a pin hole blinder on my shooting eye and a full blinder on the other eye. That is about as clear as things ever get. Your eye strain is much reduced if you don't completely patch your eye. A piece of frosted tape on your glasses is pretty close to ideal. I would try that first.

You should put some tape on your eyebrows for shooting, and then when you're done pull it off really quickly!

Thanks! I know you said frosted tape but can a white or light yellow paper be equally effective since they are all light color?

You should put some tape on your eyebrows for shooting, and then when you're done pull it off really quickly!

It works better on your arms and legs.
