    Guitar Gun Case Owners

The zippers on my cheapie GunMate soft case that I've used for my shotgun ripped off and I'm in the market for a new gun case. I know Pelican is the king for hard gun cases and I would rather spend that kind of money for my rifles with glass.

Looking for input, ideas, and inspiration for re-purposing a guitar case or even a violin case. I haven't abandoned using a soft case just wanted to see and hear how you're able to install foam/straps/velcro on the inside of a guitar/violin case.

Please post pics if you have them too!!!

I posted the following very recently. It's not specifically about guitar style cases but you may find some of it useful...There's a post in the thread on the Hazard 4 guitar case...

Gut a hard shell guitar case. Cover the firearm/accessories with plastic wrap. Spray expanding foam (get two cans) into the case and press items into it. Once dry remove the items, cover foam with spray adhesive and overlay with your fabric of choice.

Or get some pick and pluck foam instead.

Yeah I saw that one too about the Hazard 4 case. For that price though I'd just pay the extra for a Pelican imo. I intend to use this for transport to the range and plan to hit up the local thrift stores for guitar/violin cases tomorrow.

Is spray foam easy to find at any hardware store (Lowes, HD, etc)? Sounds like an easy project once I find the appropriate cases. I'm toying with the idea in my head and here is what I'm thinking for shotguns:

          Guitar Case:
18" Remington 870 with standard stock and extended mag tube
18" Mossberg 500 with birdshead grip

          Violin Case:
          broken down 20" coach gun

Yup. Be prepared to do some trimming since, as the name suggests, the foam expands.

Find a used guitar case on e-bay or the local swap meet and put new foam in it. Don't really like spray foam for this as most people have no idea how much it expands. Regular 2 inch think sheets work great. Swap meet cases = $20.00 and no one gives them a second look. Especially a used slightly worn one. Just watch the bass players they're shifty.

                  Sarcasm or nah??? lol
I went looking through two local thrift stores and no guitar cases available. Will continue to check out other thrift stores, CL, and yard sales. As for the spray foam, I've never worked with it so if I did go that route, I'd play with expansion and set times first before putting gobs of it into the gutted case.

                  Thanks everyone for your input!!!

New cases, with a lock, are $50 on ebay. I use one.
