Dumb question about Plaster City

I thought this was relevant here because I'm going there to shoot my Centerfire rifles, carbines and other gas operated rifles.

I have a meeting in El Centro on Friday, on the way back i want to scope out a place in Plaster City to shoot for a bit. Ive been in SD all my life but have never been a desert guy with quads and all that, and typically I haven't had to go that far east to shoot. Not familiar with the desert scene.

I see Plaster City is open to shooting and off-roading. So my question is, when I find a good mound to shoot into, what prevents somebody from riding their quad up over the top of it when I am shooting? I don't think its prime desert season at the moment given its supposed to be 103 degrees on Friday, but still.

Not asking for coordinates to the secret spot. I have my BLM paper maps and my google knowledge, I'll find my own spot. But is there a region (like East of this, or North of that) within these 41,000 acres that is known to be more geared toward target practice?

The gun is in your hands and you are in complete responsibility....even if someone does something dumb, stupid, or ignorant.

Make sure you have a clear field of view side to side and front to back. A spotter is nice if you will be prone or hunkered down to a scope. Know your target and what's beyond. Keep gun pointed in a safe direction at all times....all that basic stuff needs hyper vigilence.

Have fun and please haul out more than you haul in.

Yes op, please take pics of all the people camping in over 100 degree weather. I'm not saying don't be safe, but geez. If you want to be extra careful find somewhere between the plant and the Ocotillo exit. Several good spots out there if you have 4x4

I was stationed in El Centro for a few years. "Campers" would ride their quads into the three military bombing ranges there because the either destroyed the signs with shotguns, or didn't bother to read them. On several occasions civilian vehicles were hit with inert ordnance and were lucky not to be killed. If you wander north of base a few miles, be sure you know where you are on a map. Some "campers" are there to collect old ordnance because they think it's cool, and some are scrappers looking for metal. Strange people. Be safe.

Concur....on a weekday in Mid-May I wouldn't really expect there to hardly anyone....and likely no one out there.

One option if you're really concerned. Bring a couple of stakes and some of the yellow caution tape and string it along the hill top. Would at least give someone a heads up not to come over the hill in the spot.

But I don't think you'll have much of anything to worry about.
