    PSA for new shooters

This may seem a little odd for some of you (though for the nerds who collect stuff, maybe not) but I thought I would share some advice. Whenever you buy a new gun, try to keep the original packaging, manual, factory parts, even advertisements...etc.

People just automatically assume you treat your guns better if you keep all that old stuff. It really helps with resale value if you ever decide you want to sell or trade the gun down the road.

I get that its an inconvenience if space is limited or you are hiding purchases from the wife/gf (Ive done it many times) but if you got some room in the attic, close or garage it really can pay off.
Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. Oversentimentality, oversoftness, washiness, and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people." Teddy Roosevelt

Some buyers are picky like that.

Are you sure about the pay off? Other then the pistol case and the stuff that comes in stays, the rifle boxes and paperwork get tossed. But some buyers are picky like that. Honestly it never has effected me as far as pricing selling or buying.

I think it just makes it easier to sell them when you got all the stuff that came with them.

I don't have any of my original boxes, except maybe a glock box and a beretta box. Most long guns these days come in huge, cheap cardboard boxes that have completely fallen apart before you even get the gun home the first day.

Imagine my surprise when I picked up my brand new, top of the line Benelli M4 a while back, and it basically came in an oversized cereal box. Didn't evne have foam, or dividers or anything, it was just sliding around in there.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

This is sound advice. The first thing I ask someone bringing in a gun for sale is do you have the original box and inserts.
You, you, and you: Panic. The rest of you, come with me.

Man I remember how jipped/nervous I felt when I saw the box my Les Baer came in. Was certain I'd bought a chinese knockoff lol

Anyways, not only liberal wives force gun sales. Sometimes money just really is that tight. Unfortunately. I love my guns but I love my kids more.

I guess the real takeaway here is dont get married or have kids if you like guns

Yeah, this happens to people and it sucks! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. That reminds me my wife asked me when was it going to take her out to the range, kids and work take up most of my time so I just recently started making trips to the range.

Unfortunately, I have all of my handgun tupperware. Stored up in the garage. PTR came in a nice plastic case too!

HA! Same here. My M4 box was all taped together. Gun was fine all plastic wrapped and stuff but geez. Did you get one from Calibers last July for $1300?

Sounds like you're talking about the buyers that are collectors. Or collector guns like those old S&W registered Magnum, old colt collector pieces that aren't really shot much.

Cause if it's a shootin' gun. The boxes etc.. Don't matter as you're looking to buy a serviceable weapon that you intend to use. Yes, there are those picky buyers... But you'll find someone else who'll pay the same and could care less. Have patience and you'll find them.

I remember once being asked if I had all the DROS/receipts when I sold an off roster pistol. Since the guy wanted to be sure I was the only owner I suppose? All that stuff goes into a shredder since I usual hang on to my stuff. Told him he was welcome to come inspect the pistol and work from there... Nothing more than a tire kicker. Sold it a week later at asking price

What you need to keep are the accessories that come with guns... All the fun extra stuff (extra barrels for Dan Wesson's come to mind).

                            Dan

My 308 came in a plastic shipping case, all my other long guns came in cheap cardboard. All HGs are kept in factory plastic cases.
                              Peace through superior firepower
