Awesome, can you give a breakdown of what you learned, what you did wrong, and skills you're working on for next time?

The reason I'm doing this is to practice my shooting instead of the range all the time.
Got my scores today and as expected i shoot in the novice range and as one of the instructors said "you can't miss fast enough to make up for bad shots" i need to slow down, the biggest thing i learned is my left eye is the dominate eye always thought it was my right.

Being cross dominant sucks. I'm trying to train myself to shoot both eyes open. Unlearning 25 years of shooting is hard.

It's possible that your dominant eye changed over the years. Mine did and I'm having to relearn things as well.

Sounds like you shot the Classifier. Learn the rules there are many of them and learn about cover. It's a fun game.

cool man. it is a really fun game and excellent skills practice.

I am cross dominant and shoot both eyes open, but discovered my weirdness at an early age so no re-learning... that's gonna be tough.

My number 1 tip to new IDPA shooters is to get away from the walls.
A lot of people will crowd the walls and push the gun out past the barrier.

It is slower than staying back from the walls and just leaning out, but more importantly I see people "chasing" their pistol around the corner.
Meaning that the muzzle goes really close to 180, then back to down range because they cannot fit the gun between themselves and the barrier without turning it. Good way to get DQ'd.

Try to keep arms length from the barriers, if you can.

Good on you for advancing you skills and having fun!

Most of the time in IDPA it pays to make up a miss if you spot it quickly, most of the time it does not pay to make up a bad hit, unless you knew it was a poor shot when it broke.

Not much sense in spending 2 seconds to make up one. Especially, if your accuracy isn't great in the beginning. It's likely your make up shot won't be any better and if it is the time it took to fire it negates the better score on the target.

                    ...
That's why it is important to be able to call the shot.

IDPA is the best practical experience you can learn from IMHO. Did a class a year ago and not only was it a blast, I learned a hell of a lot. One of the scenario's at our range is a house clearing. Everyone should try this atleast once.
