CCW Background check - how long?

I have been waiting for a little over 3 months for the results of my DOJ background check. I have the preliminary okay, and got fingerprinted via livescan (or whatever they call it), Is it taking that long now? I've left voicemail messages and emailed the CCW desk at the Orange County Sheriff's, but get no replies.

I have no idea since I haven't applied for CCW before (and won't in this county). I'm seeking employment at the local police department, and I was told by their background investigator that it should take about a week to run a full background check, but that's taking into account that I submitted a 25 page background statement packet and privacy release to do that extra up-the-butt-without-lube check. I can't imagine that a CCW background investigation would take much longer than that, if as long.

CH, you must've applied back around the same time I did. I did the livescan on May 9th. I'm coming up on 12 weeks next week. That's how long they say the DOJ turnarounds for the prints are taking. Another guy I know recently got his repsonse after 119 days. So you should be getting very close. Hang in there.

Dan M - Have you heard back on yours yet? I'm still waiting. I can't get a return phone call or email from the Sheriff's Dept, either.

        Thanks!

41 days, from the interview/application turn in till the permit in the mail. Was like Shall Issue. I guess it pays to live in a green county.

I'm still waiting from a June 21st livescan. I've heard it takes up to 90 days for a response.

How do they notify you, by mail again?

If you guys don't mind, what reasons did you use to get your CCW. Or, what are some reasons that you would need a CCW.

No. You have to call them, but wait at least 10 weeks before you call.

                        I'm on my 10th week.

So if I don't call, they wont notify me that I cleared the DOJ background check?

Per Dan's response, seems they notify you don't they?

Depends on how long the SO/PD sits on it. Mine took less than a month.

I phrased that poorly. I think the guy was probably checking and found out the DOJ had finally responded in writing to the OCSD, and he used the term "response" when he told me, and I used it when I told you. The OCSD says they will inform you when you've been cleared, but so far, most people I know have been too impatient (me included) to wait to be informed, so they call. gmcem50 and I had nearly identical wait times, even though he squeezed a denial and appeal into his wait time. My time was 105 days. After 12 weeks, I waited a week and a half and called and I hadn't been cleared yet. I waited another week and a half and they said come on down..
