    Off Roster Markups

Its been a while since I've been in the market for a new pistol, but now I am. I started looking at the Marketplace page for my wanted pistol and was shocked at the asking prices. I'm seeing $1000 markups. Seriously? Is this normal? People are crazy if they pay these prices. I expected some markup, but this?

Normal in this state, yes, and people gladly pay it all day.

I don't think the people paying those prices are crazy. It's a free market economy so items are worth whatever people are willing to pay for them. It's absurd that we have to deal with this though - that's for sure.

OP, this comes up almost daily. Basic supply/demand as stated above. I do not pay those prices, but some choose to.

Supply and demand. Why pay $30,000 for a 1960's car?

Its limited in supply and bottom line the buyer wants it and willing to pay for it.

It's not crazy if I have the money and I want it bad enough.

( I don't have the money and I don't want it bad enough, but that is hypothetically speaking)

Supply and demand? I beg to differ. There's no shortage of gen 4 Glocks, as they seem to flood the Market place everyday with one being posted almost every hour yet, you have guys asking almost $1,000 for them. It's all about opportunity and suckers. There's not much of a huge difference from a gen 3 Glock from the gen 4, but I can get a BNIB gen 3 Glock 17 for $400 before tax and DROS.

Yes, the fact that a handgun is "off roster" makes the gun harder to get, but that doesn't mean the gun is worth double the price, it's only worth what you're willing to pay, and I'll never buy a Glock for more than $500. I'm not that desperate.
***PSA: Don't be that guy and post "Contact me, I'm interested". Dummy, YOU'RE the one who's interested. YOU contact the seller! ***

Yes I would never pay the premium for a Gen4 because the Gen3 is a good to go. However there are people who want the latest toy they can afford. Now I would be willing to pay a premium (or be a sucker) if we are talking about a 5" M&P because I love those things.

A 5" M&P's are more rare than your typical Glock and depending on the markup, it could make a decent buy, but there's a fine point to what's worth it and you're dumb for even asking for that much. Same goes for H&K VP9's and etc. they cost $600 average in the free states, but go for $1200+ all day in CA. It's amazing, really.

As much as I don't like it as a buyer I love it as the seller. It really goes both ways so I can't really complain. As for a VP9 that's really the buyers' fault because they have the choice to buy a Glock or XD that's on the roster for $500 and spend the money to tune it up but they chose to accept the mark up and spend $1,000 + for a VP9.

Oh yes, 5" M&Ps are frigging awesome! I sure as heck love my

If one has small hands it is either pay extra and buy a Gen 4 or Get a Gen 3 and have an outfit like TTI to modify the grip. At the end it costs the same.

30,000 to over 100,000 for an antique car is in the costs of restoration mostly.
