Looking to go shooting at Yuba gold fields, suggestions?

NO ONE GOT SHOT, Just bad title. Sorry!

Hello, i'm looking to go plinking at Yuba Gold Fields. However, I have not been able to find concrete information on where exactly to shoot there... I know there is a lot of private land around the BLM lands, and that there might be a gate that blocks access to the public. Could anyone hook me up with a google maps pinpoint of a good area to go too?

Looking to plink with a new security shotgun.

Will definitely clean up my mess when i'm done .

    Thanks for the info!

PS. trying to avoid Spenceville. Thanks.

      You're totally right, and well....

apparently I can't change the title. OOPS.

If a mod could change the title to

"Looking for a place to shoot at Yuba Goldfields"

      I would appreciate it..

      Sorry!

I haven't lived out there inane years but I don't think it's legal anywhere at the gold fields.

"Much of the public land managed by the Mother Lode Field Office is technically available for target shooting. However, there are several problems:

The public land parcels tend to be small, irregularly shaped, and scattered throughout the Sierra Foothills. It can be difficult to know with certainty when one is on public land or on private property."

It does warn that there has been increased urbanization, which makes it harder to find somewhere to shoot. Also there have been some members on here who have said they shoot there just fine. I've pm'd them as well but who knows if they will respond .

          Thanks for your input!

How about a little further up to Oroville Clay Pit's? https://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...19048891799903

Personally trying to avoid actual ranges where other shooters might be. I've read of some very questionable behavior from hooligans who go shooting at places like this and spenceville. I'm taking out a couple friends who are completely new to guns and a little uneasy and I want to teach them somewhere they can feel comfortable. I would go to a regular range but they don't allow birdshot there for target practice with a shotgun. I don't have slugs and want to use what I have.

You won't be disappointed with oroville. I love that place. I have met some very nice people there. I will never go back to spenceville though.

I will keep it in mind for sure, especially since you recommend it. Still weighing my options on the Goldfield if anyone has tips though!

Ha, I was run out of the gold fields for plinking with .22's several times, many many years ago. Sheriff's and game wardens both. Guess I should have looked in to it more.

Oroville is the place to be. Even with the yahoos, it's safer, since it's a single direction and much less ricochet hazard, and no one is going to (well, unlikely to) ride a dirt bike out from behind the berm you've got your targets on.

++1 to Oroville, I was out there this morning. Get out there early on the weekends, the rest of the week though you can usually find a spot, there were still some empty tables when I left. Most the time people are pretty cool out there, and acting responsibly.

+1 to Yuba gold fields, that's a fun place to play! Great place to find swimming and fishing holes, or ride quads or dirt bikes. You have to be careful though, lot of private land out there too, western aggregate owns a lot of it and it's hard to tell where your at. There's a giant dredge still sitting out there, super cool..

OP do you have a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle? It helps.. Have you done a lot of exploring out there? Lot of people shoot out there, you'll see plenty of evidence. I'm not sure how legal it is...

Bottom line do your homework, get a good map, talk to BLM, and watch out for snakes! Definitely worth looking into, its a neat place!
But I don't come 'round here to meet nice people anyway
And what the hell am I doing drunk in the middle of the day

I have a compact sedan lol; but i'm not averse to some walking! Also I've never been there so thats why I'm so concerned.

As for homework, trust me i've tried and dang i'm frustrated... tried for 3 days to talk to the Motherlode field office to get their advice and consent, but I have not been able to talk to them. I'm hoping I get to talk to them monday before we go but who knows.. -_-. As for legality, as far as I can tell from their website it is legal but only on the BLM parcels, which are hard to really tell where they are. Thats why I was hoping someone here who's been could throw me a GPS coord or just pinpoint a general location so we could go search out a nice spot in confidence. We're not ready to go to a range yet, I'll have to make a target stand or something because I don't have one. Honestly the most important thing is just to get out there and shoot it safely you know?

Nowhere online can I get any definitive answers and its really annoying. Can't wait until I get a pistol or something else someday(or get my .22 scope zero'd in, complete noob there) so I can just go to a range nearby and call it good. Also maybe do some trap maybe if they let my security shotgun do it.
