Can the SPAS 12 be revived?

Cant technically someone, or some company buy or license the design, and begin manufacturing them inside the US?

Imagine the massive influx of people willing to buy and own one.

It could be possible if someone purchased the equipment to make then along with the license.
Do you really think there would be a massive demand for these.

Hell yes. Look at all the video games and movies.

If they were somehow able to make a pump action only version and sell it for a lower price, it would go like hotcakes.

They would certainly have a market. I'd consider buying one only because it's been one of my favorite movie guns since the 80's.

I wouldn't buy it as a practical HD firearm.

Having owned one back in the day, I can tell you this.

While cool looking and having the "Hollywood" appeal, they are heavy and cumbersome. They also needed heavy loads to move all that mass when in semi auto mode. If you didn't remember this when in semi, you had better be able to fix the problem.

In pump the shotgun would work without any problems, just slower than other shotguns because you had to cycle all the weight of the action.

Would I buy another? Hell yeah! Even though I own a Benelli Super90M3 which is by far a superior semi/pump shotgun. '

I doubt it. If there really was a huge demand for the SPAS 12, Benelli would not have discontinued the very similar Benelli M3.

I think they discontinued it because they simply couldn't get it into the US anymore, and because of the stigma back then.

Gun rights and gun ownership are now stronger than ever, and I'm sure it'll do well because just of the fact it's been banned for a long time, and now people want it.

I admit I do not know why the Benellli M3 was discontinued, but I manufacture stocks that fit on the Benelli M1, M2 and M3, and M3 customers (of which we were aware, through sales and support calls, etc) were very rare. It was a weird shotgun for weird shooters (I have one, never shot it, it's actually a little complicated to operate, something that IMHO is undesirable in a tactical shotgun platform).

I know people will buy it because of the aesthetic and historic factor, that's one of the biggest reasons someone will buy a particular gun.

The M3 in semi is one of the fastest shooting actions, switching to pump and back is easy. All it takes is the quarter turn of the locking mechanism. Compared to the SPAS, the M3 will cycle all types of ammo in semi.

The SPAS needed heavy loads to work the action in semi, which meant you spent more money buying slugs, OO and the like to shoot it.

But it has an arm hook for 1 handed wielding or even dual wieldng with 2 spazzez!!
I hated how you had to push a button with one hand and hold it down to release the loading gate though...

you would need to sell thousands of them to recoup any kind of machinery and licensing costs.
And with the readily available 870's, 500's, 590's that offer pretty much the same thing at about $400 vs the $1000+ for the SPAS it wouldn't be an easy sell, sure some collectors would always want it but still.

From a sales and business perspective, this would be a terrible investment. I bet no more than a few hundred for the entire country would sell. Too niche.
