I can use my 30 rounders floorplates for my 20 rounders. I need to break off the tab for my 20 rounders to upgrade the follower to Magpul's, after that I put in a 30 rounders' floorplate.

    usgi 20 <-> 30, followers are compatible.

that would be manuafacturing a new mag since you did not legally own the follower (piece of pre-ban mag) prior to the ban. the renter could be in trouble for the same since he conspired.

No, what he meant was to borrow a C-Mag follower to replace the follower in his legal preban high cap tube magazine to start the process rolling. He's just suggesting replacing the follower with a follower.

Right now I have no access to a Beta-C to undertake this myself (I'd be perfectly happy to see if it works and do video as appropriate using a parts kit or just the follower from a beta-c - all parts would of course be returned).

Now, for any given magazine transmutation, there should be at least one transitional state (where the parts are commingled in one magazine) where the hybrid magazine is demonstrated to be fully functional. I am almost confident that a USGI 30rd magazine would function normally with a Beta-C follower, and completely confident (barring spring issues due to an uneven bottom) that a straight-body 20rd magazine would function normally with an old Beta-C follower.

The beginning state is your normal, lawfully owned large cap mag and a rebuild kit consisting of all the parts of another magazine.

The transitional state is one where you have replaced one or more of the parts with parts from the kit. The hybrid magazine must function acceptably with an over 10 round capacity, or it's not a rebuild by my standards!

The final state is where you have rebuilt the hybrid magazine using the parts from the kit, with the rest of the kit. No part of your original magazine is in use, and the original magazine is simply a parts kit.

              Business idea:

              Hi-cap magazine rebuild CONVERSION kits

              Imagine for example:
Hybrid parts that will allow your Sig 226 15rd mag to be "rebuilt" into an 18rd Beretta 92FS mag.

Would the converted Sig magazine still function in a Sig 226?

Because if it doesn't, then you have just manufactured a new mag... I have an independent email from the DOJ stating this, and it was also in the PDF I think.

It's not in the Hoffman letter, but I'd be interested in seeing the email from the DoJ.

                  Sucks if true. Ahhhh well.

However, my confidence is not yet at 100% regarding the body curvature issue on a USGI 30rd (the most popular, hence why I am so interested in it)

This is very helpful too: http://www.betaco.com/hdetail.asp?tid=24 - given this link design, I am pretty sure one could use just use the one side of the links (kink 'em up like they're double stacked) to retain capacity.

For anyone wishing to review what I've got so far:

The combination of The Gun Wiki to our system is not only in line with what we are working on, but will also serve as a means in which to build upon our ongoing projects.

                          Per:

Magpul Ranger Floorplates: These are designed to fit onto 30rd STANAG magazines. Internet hearsay has it that the Magpul Ranger floorplate will also function on the 20rd magazines, thus providing a "bridge" between USGI 20 and 30 round mags.
I have ranger floorplates on some 10/20 mags. You need to pop out the weird little tab/clip thing, and then it goes on just like a standard 30rd mag floorplate.
