    Big 5 Fail in Policy??

Seems like there are a lot of posts about Big 5's stringent policies....

So a friend of mine purchased an M&P 15-22 from them. He has an expired CCW from about 7 years ago and no FSC. They accepted the CCW as exemption (maybe they didn't check the expiration date or maybe it doesn't matter)? The DROS cleared so not sure if it matters or just slipped through the cracks.

That one slipped through the cracks. The CCW needs to be current.

They will be calling back to have it fixed soon in fear of an audit.

(Well, maybe not, it is Big 5.)

Assuming they slipped up...there's no blowback on my friend, right? I mean it cleared DROS, so as far as DOJ is concerned, it would be a legit sale. Big 5 could potentially get dinged in an audit for their screw up.

Not sure of how the whole sales dialogue went down....from what I understand, they asked for FSC, my friend said he didn't have one but asked if "this" (meaning his CCW - albeit expired) would work and they salesperson said yes. My friend didn't point out that it was expired and the salesperson didn't catch it.

              It is Big 5's ding.

He should probably go get his FSC anyway if he will be buying anything in the future.

I'd probably go to Big 5 with the FSC and help them out if it is at all convenient, why let them get burned?
If it is not that easy, have friend tell them to drive to his house to fix it.
Probably could just FAX/e-mail them a copy.

They do call. They flubbed my DROS a few years ago. The manager called very apologetically and asked me come in to correct a missed input on the paperwork. Went in to fix the error and created a good relationship with the manager that lasted for years. Sadly he's gone now.

I'm not saying your friend misled the sales rep, but we should all do our best to help the less informed salespeople stay legal. They're not the ones who create the hoops we have to jump througn. Once it becomes to burdensome for them, and unprofitable, they will simply stop selling firearms, leaving us with fewer options.

Your friend might think he got around the system. But he may have cost that employee his job.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Another question is: why your friend is carrying around a CCW that expired 7 years ago?

I don't know about the misleading part either. From what I understand, he handed the sales rep his expired CCW and asked if that would do. If the sales rep said no, its expired, then he would have just done the FSC test. He was apparently there with someone buying a shotgun who didn't have a FSC and had to take the test. It was an impulse buy, they just happened to get the M&P 15-22 and were putting it out on the shelf and he decided to buy it. He's not up on all the purchasing requirements, was relying on the sales rep to have accurate information I guess.

I have no idea. He must have a George Castanza wallet.
