Affordable Rangefinders for shooting?

So I'm interested in buying an affordable rangefinder. By 'affordable' I'm looking at about $150 max. The main goal is to range distances of targets. I don't hunt. I do have a 1000 yard capable rifle (but not the skill to shoot it that far).

So I've been looking at the Wildgame line like the Halo series or p1000x. But it seems most rangefinders are for golf. Are there shooting specific ones & do they have shooting specific tools versus golf models? And is it worth it to jump up from say a 600 yard capable to a 1000 yard capable just so you have the ability to range that far IF you want?

In the $150 range @ 1000 yards capable, waterproof (or resistant) I'd be curious as to recommendations.

With these types of products, you get what you pay for. Many claim to be able to hit 1000yds accurately and consistently. Usually not the case. Read the reviews and blogs on the ones you're considering. You will see the majority don't perform as advertised.

I went with the Vortex at $399.00 and its been bullet proof out to 600yrds very consistently. Haven't tried past that yet. The Leupold gets very high reviews but I went with Vortex because of the unmatched warranty. The ones for golf have golf specific features for golf that you don't need for shooting or hunting. Just my 2 cents.

Can't offer much help as I use my golf one that was given to me as a gift. But I will add that the range they are capable of is dependent upon on the reflectiveness of what you are aiming at. Mine came with three different ratings because of it. Also mine being a golf one actively looks for flags as to give you the most accurate reading to that distance, which is handy if you stick windage flags down range.

Ive got an inexpensive Bushnell. Great little range finder but doesn't pick up after about 350m

I've got a Nikon Forestry Pro here at work. I think it's $300+. Just tried to test it's distance but I don't have a clean shot of anything past 300m

Yeah, above $150 is just not worth it to me for as little as it will get used. It is really most useful for me on BLM land. And then of course misc use around life (like ranging my spear throws or archery setup in the back yard).

If I can get a 1000 yard model over a 600 yard model with good reviews in the similar price range, it seems like it makes more sense to me. And, on eBay and such, sometimes the 1000 yard models can go for similar of the 600. so why go 600.

I just got the Halo 900 yard model. It works well enough. The biggest issue you have past a few hundred yards is the laser hitting the target. You won't be able to range a 12" disc at 600 yards. You'll have to range the tree next to it.

I have the 400 yd older version of this. Works well for setting out steel in the forest. Reflective surface is your friend. Target setter with white tee on works well.

The Halo series goes out to 600-650 and also gets great ratings and I can beat the price over the Simmons. But I did consider that Simmons.

If you want 1000 you will need a higher budget price. I got bushnells from $100-300 to Leopold $600 and the Leo gets to 1k but you got to wait for a few sec to get a feedbak. The Bushnell $250 gets put to 750 and the $100 gets about 400.

The Wlldgame p1000x claims 1000 yards and you can buy off eBay right now for $155. One went earlier today for like $145. I have just been holding out until I research more. It gets pretty solid reviews.

Their Halo series does about 600-650 and can be had under $100 or $100 even.
