    Moving to CA from Texas

    Hey all,

I am in the Military and will soon be station in CA (I am from CA but since I enlisted changed my residence to WA). I've been doing some research and reading about moving with my firearms. I have an AR-15 (not on the ban list) a Glock 30 and a Mossberg 500 Thunder Ranch. From my understanding for me to legally bring my firearms into CA I must:

    1) ensure my AR is not on the ban list
    2) install "Bullet Button" prior to crossing State lines
    3) install a 10 round Mag for both the AR and Glock and disassemble all my 30 round and any Mags that hold more than 10 rounds (do not reassemble while in CA)
    4) complete the "New Resident report of firearm ownership" and send along with $19.00 to the state within 60 days of arrival
    5) sell and buy back my handgun from a FFL dealer

    -Question-
Am I missing anything? I looked at the New resident report of firearm ownership form and do I have to list ALL my firearms or just handgun? How difficult will it be to get a CCW in the State? Thanks for your help.

I don't think you can bring your +10 round mag into the state even disassembled.
    #5, what do you mean?

Please bring in as many off-roster handguns as possible. There is a high demand for H&K VP9, VP40, M&Ps of all variants, etc

I read on the AG site that I must:

        "Complete and submit a New Resident Report of Firearm Ownership (BOF 4010A), pdf along with $19.00 to the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms;
Sell or transfer the firearm to a California licensed firearms dealer or to another individual using a California licensed firearms dealer to conduct the transaction; or
Sell or transfer the firearm to a California police or sheriff's department. Persons choosing this option should contact the law enforcement agency for instructions prior to transporting the firearm to the agency."

You only have to do one of the above, not two out of three.
          Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Actually did some more reading and looks like I will be exempt from completing the form. Just have to ensure I am CA compliant correct? Since I am Military? https://web.archive.org/web/20151027..._with_firearms

Since you are active duty military with permanent duty orders for CA, then you are exempt from needing to register the firearms.
If you are no longer active duty or separate from service and stay to CA, you then have to register the firearms.

Firearms need to be made CA legal prior to arriving to CA.

You can not bring any large capacity magazines or large capacity magazine parts kits to CA.
However, any large capacity magazines issued to you by the Mil is exempt from this. (you do not own them, the Mil owns them).

Awesome, thanks appreciate you clearifying things up. 👍

Buy as many guns as you can now. I was stationed at Hood for 3 years and it was such a breeze to buy guns. Could (and did) buy guns during lunch at Quantico tactical or picked up from my home based FFL for online purchases. In CA you gotta pay stupid fees, wait 10 days, drive to the FFL twice, neuter everything and pay to have it made compliant... It just sucks. Get yourself a pair of blue label glocks for $400 that you can sell here for double that

Yea, I've been debating buying another handgun. Funny thing is getting a CCW in Texas is "harder" than it was in WA (my last duty station). Wa state you just fill out application and paid for fingerprints 2-4 weeks later it was in the mail box. They didn't require any classes like Texas. But CA is by far the worst (of course)
