New No-Lock Smith and Wesson Revolvers

A couple of weeks ago, I ordered a no-lock Smith and Wesson 642 to add to my CCW permit for concealed carry. It just came in, and I DROS'd it today.

Does anyone know whether Smith and Wesson plans on producing any other revolver models without an internal lock in the future? Is this the beginning of the end for the infamous lock?

Smith has made runs of no lock 442's and 642's for a while now. As far as I know only the 442/642 are offered without the lock.

No, the 642 with no lock is SKU 103810, which is on the roster.

No, they're on the roster. 642-1 SKU 103810A / Steel; Aluminum alloy, about 28 down on the S&W list.

The 640 Pro doesn't have the lock.

I wonder if one could get the S&W custom shop to make a no-lock version of, say, a Model 66.

I dont know what the big deal is, I removed the internal part on my Model 69 so I dont have to worry about it engaging. I can understand some dont like the screw on the side, it doesnt bother me at all but to each his own.

For CCW, some issuing agencies will not allow any non-factory modification to a pistol listed on your permit. This varies county by county.

The locks are awesome - so much more convenient than using the cable lock. And much safer because, you know, you might put the cable lock on wrong and have a negligent discharge.

I would be very surprised if anyone actually used the lock on a firearm that had one. MY LGS had me use it during the safe handling demo when I purchased a SA 1911. I vowed in my head at that moment to remove it as soon as practical (it's easy to do on a 1911 -- just replace the MSH).

My Remington 700 also has a lock on it. That one I'll leave in place because it's not a self-defense weapon, and I don't feel like replacing parts to remove the lock.

I don't think I had to buy a lock when I purchased my J Frame, probably because it has a factory lock huh? I had to buy a lock when I bought my G19.
