    Buffer Tube Question

    Hi all

Today I was out shooting, and toward the end of the day my AR would no longer fire. So I took it apart and seen a round piece of metal in the center of the BCG. I the looked at the buffer and noticed that the round piece of metal came from the buffer and now it has a hole in it. So my question is how the hell did my BCG wear a hole in my buffer , after only shooting about 400 rounds total through this AR. Also how do I stop it from happening again after I get a new buffer? I have included a photo so you all can see the issue. http://imgur.com/4X4SRBU

Do you mean the buffer? I don't see a hole in the tube. Otherwise called a reciever extension.

thank you all for your "help" I knew if I made a thread on here asking a question I would get smart gun guys, and not those people who want to correct spelling and grammar. Or say stupid stuff like "must be ebay special". Or people just trying to raise their post count. So, again thank you all.

Well what do you want people to say? I'm looking at the image, and can't tell what the hell is going on other than it doesn't appear to be a proper buffer. It looks like some cheap ebay crap, that happens to have come from brownells so you need to contact their CS department or the manufacturer of the part and see if you can get it replaced. There's no "help" for anyone to offer you. The part is bad, replace the part.

OK, so why not just say that in the first place. I just don't want to replace it and have it happen again, that's why I was asking. at least now I know to never come on here and ask a question. Cause this place seems to be full of all the small dick syndrome having gun owners, that want to be smarts asses or talk down on people.

Any forum recommendations for big dick gun owners like myself?

Hollow buffer. Base plate was not properly secured by mfg, and came off (attached to BCG). With the plate fine, you can see your buffer is an empty tube.

Push down the retainer pin in front of the buffer and alow the buffer to come out. Photograph it and email Brownell's with the order number.

                    Hey Mikeyork,

Sorry to see of your disappointment with some members. It takes a little getting used to. You will get the answers that you need 99% of the time. Sometimes, they come in forms that you don't prefer though. There is legit knowledge here and hope that you stick around.

Good luck with your issue. It should not have happened in the first place had the buffer been in good order. Replacing it with a new one that is in good order should not replicate the issue. As has been suggested, contact Brownell's and see what they can do for you.

Worst case scenario, buy a new buffer. Maybe a Spike's tactical or something. Even no-name mil-spec should be good. I have used different ones from different manufacturers with no issues. I think your issue was more of a fluke than normal.

                    Good luck.

I'm curious how your AR wouldn't fire? Did the metal piece jam up the BCG and/or prevent the firing pin or hammer from functioning?

Btw, it looks like the buffer was defective. The weights should have been inserted from the other end and not punch through like that. Brownells has excellent customer service and they will take of you.

You'll definitely get the best service in the industry from Brownells.

                          OOOPS...almost forgot.

Buffer appears to be a POS. Post count up by 1.

When you put a new buffer in, rotate it so the 3 cuts are not right over the retainer pin. That way it won't pop out when you seperate the recievers.

I've never had that happen. If you're having that issue your detent spring is possibly weak.
