How about a Stey M40-A1 then give a range report. I was going to buy a PX4 Storm Beretta yesterday but after I handled the Steyr I canged my mind. I didn't have much time so I have to leave the gun store.

I would stick to getting semi-auto pistols before the mag disconnect law kicks in at the end of the year. I would hate to find out that the handgun you've always wanted is no longer on the list because some fool let the DOJ payment lapse.

A good Bolt gun is always nice.

I second that! If you go the handgun route get a 1911 if you want a rifle then a 10/22!

Ignore all those people that tell you to buy guns you already own (lever-action .357, and 10/22).

Lessee - you need a .22 revolver, a bolt-action .308 rifle, a pump-action .357 rifle, maybe a bolt-action .22 rifle, a single-action revolver, and a 1911, just to round out your collection while keeping in the same calibers.

To expand it, you need a Browning Hi-Power, a lever-action .45-70, a falling block .45-70, semi-auto and pump shotguns... and then come back to us for more ideas.

Personally, I don't know what's wrong with you. Can't you just walk into a gun store and find a few guns you'd love to have?

Oh yeah, I realized you also need more .22 rifles: a bolt action, a lever action, and a pump action, at least!

And a smaller semi-auto for plinking, maybe a Ruger Mini-30 so you can use the same brushes and cleaning stuff as in the M1a. And then a bolt-gun in the same caliber.


Have you made any choices since you posted this thread? What are you leaning towards?

You've got a nice collection that covers the spread pretty well.

If it has to be a new firearm, I'd say an AR, AK, SKS, or 9mm pistol (glock 17/19 or XD).

However, you could also take that money and get (more?) training.

Then you will be better at using the nice collection you have.

thanks for all the sugestions...i had a wide variety but the overwelming posts were for a single shot bolt action (i know that was redundant) so i went with a Thompson Encore Pro Hunter with 2 barrels so far. A SS 28in. 308 and a SS 20in. 460. and i chose the thumbhole stock. i see many more barrels in my future..now for the dam 10 day wait......thanks again
