Boyds Gunstocks Terrible Customer Service

Rather than tell the whole customer service story. Ya'll can see for yourself. 6 months since the order was placed, endless unanswered emails, and still my stock is not right. Heck I don't even have the forearm I mailed off for replacement 3 months ago. It has been a disaster from the moment the order was placed.

I expect the forearm or a refund immediately. I will dispute the charge with my credit card company and send them this email.

1. On the outside of the box in big bold letters write RMA #M4374
2. Flip over the invoice and on the back should be a return section, if you no longer have the paperwork write your name, phone no, and order no. WEB0228319 on a slip of paper and toss it into the box.
3. Watch this email account and later on this afternoon you will see an email from UPS with a shipping label to send the order back.

The images are attached. As you can see the forearm is like victoria secret pink and the buttstock is flourscent pink/purple. Would prefer to replace the forearm so I will not have to go through the trouble of removing the buttstock. Either color is fine as long as they match.

A 7 1/2" bolt with that size and thread pitch is a very unusual size. It is not sold by remington. It may be possible to special order it someplace. I went to a specialty fastener shop and they had an 8" one. I then had to make a spacer to take up the slack. Your company needs to send the proper size bolt with the stock even if it costs 5 more dollars for the stock. The bolt was only about 2 $.

I have been waiting since November 25th for you to reply to this e mail. Now that I am off for the holidays I have time to write reviews about your product and customer service. I will give you one more chance to make this right before you have yet another review on the internet about your companies horrible customer service.(I had to send the below email twice till there was a reply).


You have to be kidding me. There are 2 variations, and that is all. They sell 2 bolts. 8.25 and 10.25. Neither one fits as I already described. Remingtong, brownells, midway etc., all only have 2 bolts. I have the most common 870 made, millions of them are exactly like mine. A current production 870 express. It has not changed since the 90's, prior to that it was an 8.25" bolt. That variation was produced since the 50's. There are no other variations "to account for". Your other stock that fits the gun, the sterling thumbhole, shows a bolt coming with the stock in the photo. Someone probably forgot to put one in the box. The reason it doesn't fit is because the stock is likely made to also fit the remington 1100, 1187, and 870. The stocks all interchange, but have different bolt lengths. Other than that the inletting all fits.

You need to resolve the problem, or you will have many more terrible customer service reviews all over the gun forums.I have thousands of posts and am a respected member at many. Your company has a horrible reputation for customer service. I thought I would take a risk, apparently a bad idea. I know someone at your company is member on predator masters. These emails are all being posted there already. You can expect to see them on rimfire central, shotgun world, and calguns. At shotgun world people have been waiting 5 weeks to hear my review of your stock, because there are almost none to be found. If you don't know the answer, someone at boyds must.

If a bolt is found, do you plan to resolve the completely miss matched colors?

The Remington 870 has many variations to account for. The only thing I can suggest is to contact an after market hardware dealer to locate a bolt for the gun. Brownells is a good one to contact or Remington may sell them as well. Does the stock fit the gun?

These people seem to have tanked the play and keep booting it all over the infield.

I've ordered a few stocks directly from Boyd's and they shipped it right to me. That was a couple of years ago. Did something change recently?

Call your Credit Card company. Tell them you got the wrong product and sent it back. Give them some sort of proof you sent it back and date. Get your money back. Let the Schmuck vendor deal with it when they see the money out of their account. I read through your emails. Amanda got no business selling gun parts or emailing gun owners.

I've bought four stocks in last two years from Boyds. A Evolution for a 10/22 takedown. The forearm sat a quarter inch lower than the rear. I sent it back and was satisfied with the replacement. I've also ordered both a thumbhole and prairie stock for a couple Marlin 795s and a sniper stock for a CZ 550 in .308

Ultimately it has been resolved. It would of been MUCH easier if this same level of customer service was given from day 1. I would of had the stock, they would of had my money, and I would of been leaving a positive review. When I get great customer service I also come on gun forums and let people know. CZ warranty service for example, exemplary customer service.

Now I will review the stock itself.

The American Plainsmen stock is a Monte Carlo stock. The dimensions are not on the website, and an email prior to purchase said they don't know and don't have that info. (again someone could get out a measuring tape). The dimensions are:
LOP 14 1/4" (They will not cut it)
DAC 1 5/8"
DAH 2 1/4"
DA Monte Carlo 1 1/2" (yes the comb is slightly higher in the back like a rifle)
Pitch appox 3 degrees
There appears to be no cast, however there is a little bit of toe out for a right handed shooter
The grip is slighter closer to the trigger, maybe 1/4 inch or less.

Other than needing an odd size bolt which is not provided, it needed no fitting. (you can use all thread or an 8 inch bolt with a spacer, they should change the inletting to 8.5 inches and it would still fit every 870 ever made with a bolt you can buy from Remington.)

It was just a couple ounces heavier than the original. The shape on the forearm looks sort of odd but provides a good grip.

I purchased this for my g/f because she has really high cheekbones. For me, it is a trapstock, but for her it shoots flat. It was cheaper than an adjustable comb. I then took it to a fitter, had it shortened a little and pitch adjusted. With some 3/4 oz loads and 12 ounces added to the butt, she can shoot it all day. (Still working on her mount, so a couple bad mounts and she is bruised.) This stock is a cheap solution for women. Its not perfect, but close enough to get started. It could use more DAH for her long neck. They make it for a 20 ga 1100 too. She loves the pink color, it matches her shooting glasses, and looks pretty sharp with the black gun. If it was for me, I would get the red and grey (applejack I think).

I understand your hesitation to send that part in. What I would like to do is, send your original forend back to you right away so you can put the gun to use, issue you a full credit for your purchase, then place a replacement order for a matching set. That way you would have your parts for shooting in the meantime, and the money back should pay for any adjustments you would need made to a new buttstock so she can get a matching set, and hopefully compensate for the frustration of this situation. After the amount of time that has passed without resolution from us, I feel that this is the right thing to do. Please let me know if you feel this is an acceptable solution.

We should have had you return both pieces originally so we could color match, I apologize that was not how it was handled. I have spoken to the purchaser of our wood, and they agree that the forend is accurate in color to what it should be. They suggested that we have you return the buttstock as well, and then we can attempt to find some wood in the plant that would match that. I cannot guarantee that it can be done, but we will certainly try. Would that be something you would be willing to do? Let me know your thoughts, and I will do my best to accommodate you.

I had the stock cut and the pitch adjusted to fit my girlfriend. I just got the stock back from the fitter a few weeks ago. I would of returned the stock instead of the forearm.

I have reviewed all of the information and pictures you sent, and was able to locate the forend you returned. To be honest, the black jack forend returned is actually pretty close to our normal black jack color. In the photo it did appear very light in color in comparison to the buttstock, so I am concerned that if we simply reorder this forend, it will be of similar color. It seems more likely to me that the buttstock is of odd color. What I propose we do is, reorder both pieces, I can mark the order to be brought to me personally so that I can ensure a color match before sending them out to you. I would also like to credit back to your credit card $79, this would be half the original cost of products on your order. If this is not something that you are interested in doing, I can certainly refund you for this purchase in full. Again, I do sincerely apologize for the way that this was handled, I assure you that we will take measures to improve our processes going forward. Please let me know how you would like to proceed.
