There is the RIA GI .38 super on roster.

On roster as well, the Springfield 9mm is the easiest (with loaded features) for conversion from 9mm to .38 super.

Maybe a SSE2 on a 1911 frame if you like Alchemy to build up.

It's a re-loader's round, check prices on ammo before you commit.

My buddy has a colt 1911 in 38 super. Fun to shoot! Ammo isn't cheap.

I have a RIA GI 1911 in 38 Super that is on roster currently. It uses 70 series firing system. I live mine and it's worked great so far. Haven't gotten into reloading but have a spare 9mm barrel so I can buy cheap plinking ammo in 9mm (don't reload yet) and finish off with 38 Super. Round is getting more popular so it is showing up on shelves at local stores which wasn't the case when I bought it. The Springfields on roster are no longer being made but the Range Officer 9mm can be changed to 38 Super with a barrel swap I believe.

I bought an RIA .38 Super at a good price and used it a platform for many of the usual custom upgrades, including an extra match barrel, spring, and bushing for 9mm. Now I can shoot both types of ammo and the 1911 handles as well as or better than any I've ever fired. You don't necessarily need to start with a high end name brand to end up with a great 1911.

Got a Springfield 1911-1A in 38 Super love mine. You have to find the right loads they can be finicky. When you do it's a tack driver.

Can you buy a new 38 Super slide, barrel, and magazine, and put it in a 45ACP lower? I was looking to do that, but I can't find a slide for a low price. They are all more than I want to pay.

After all these years, a 1911 in .38 Super is something I've always wanted to add, but never have. I've never even shot a firearm chambered in .38 Super, but I own and have shot dozens of cartridges most people have never even heard of.

Lots of ammo is "heavy bank" however, those of us that reload have over come that hurdle, YMMV

10mm and .44 magnum are my favorites!

Higher priced ammo is why I bought 9mm swap out barrel, spring, and bushing for the RIA 1911 .38 Super. Then I can keep shooting using 9mm reloads until deals/sales arise on .38 Super ammo. Might check Ammoseek for the best price on .38 Super.

I sometimes see RIA .38 supers at Turner's, what a deal when they are on sale $499.00!.
I was picking my SA 1911 9mm and my buddy was picking his RIA .38 S at the same time.
His gun looked all business while mine screamed safe queen! However, I shoot mine.
I don't buy guns to be safe queens.
