Stolen phone ccw and unwanted calls.

So today I smashed my iPhone screen. I was in a pinch so bought a Samsung off of Craig's list for $80. Turns out the phone was stolen. When I put my sim in I got a few cross over texts of people asking for the phone back. Turns out some young kid had his phone swiped while he was out shopping. I called the number and told the kids mom I would return it. In broken English she said "you make a mothers heart happy". They offered to repay me but I refused. Why should they pay me when some punk stole their phone? He's sad his photos were deleted im out $80. I texted the guy that I returned the phone to its rightful owner and to get his s*** together. Now I'm relieving calls from him and long voicemails of nothing being said.

Comming to my house would be a massive mistake. So I'm not worried about a petty theif retaliating.

I'm wondering if this is even worth reporting. What do you guys think? In the meantime the ak will be topped off and next to the bed

As far as the ccw part It just got me thinking what if I realised it was stolen durring the deal and called him out? Would he have fought me ran away? No one needs their life taken over $80 but it kind of scared me thinking if this guy is stupid enough to steal a phone and sell it he might be stupid enough to attack a stranger if he refused to buy stolen property. Crazy world out there. Live and learn.

Not at my house. It was about 15 min away in a parking lot. However its not hard to look up an address with a phone number.

I don't think he will be stopping by your house, but I would go ahead and report it to PD.

i thought about this but i doubt the cops will go after someone over a stolen cell phone.

This. ^^^^ Alway report crimes of any sorts.

If the perp calls you back, obviously his number is known to you and you can give it to PD along with other info about this scum bag. You never know, the detectives may be following up on some of his other deeds and this may help them catch the douche.

Nice of you to return the phone to original owner.

Then don't do anything, your choice.

I'd report it and give the cops as many details as you can.

Yes, crackheads steal and resell stolen phones all the time. It's easy cash for them and the buyer is screwed.

Report him, he's likely already in the system and they can probably pick him up for a parole/probation violation.

You need to meet at the cellular provider that the phone was bought from when you buy a used phone off Craigslist. That way you can verify the phone is not stolen and make sure you can activate it. If the phone is stolen they will refuse to do this.

You'd be doing a service IMO on the chance the guy does have some sort of parole violation or gets charged. Letting him get away with it just encourages it. I would at least check to see if it's possible to find your address with a Google search. If the guy is calling back and leaving long silent voicemails he may be trying to intimidate you and I wouldn't put it past someone like that to camp outside a house to wait until it's empty and break in.

Plus you never know what a guy like that may do if he happens to see you driving your car or walking in the street. CCW or not, a cheap shot from behind is hard to avoid and at least his name will be on file to investigate.

I would report it. It's a civic duty. If nothing comes of it, you did your part. If something happens to you, you have at least, a paper trail.
