I have an old Double barrel shotgun over front door. Doesn't work, but is painted white to keep boys away from daughters. Lol

Don't put it in places easily viewed from outside. Don't let people into your home that you don't trust.

I'm a person that doesn't mind living my life around my guns/hobbies so if I wanted to go that route, I wouldn't have a problem keeping the curtains closed anywhere facing the street. But I'm not crazy about having unsecured guns around my house.

Even in free states and out in the country it's still 2016 and addicts or thieves can still commit crimes. THats why gun racks are virtually nonexistent even in rural Texas. Plenty of trucks are carrying guns still but the potential for theft keeps them under the back seat or something similar

I wouldn't recommend that. The danger of getting caught probably only adds to the thrill.

It's your home. The thing is, what kind of people visits? Do you have kids that have friends over? Anyone can be a thief, plumber, cable guy, anyone looking into the house. If a gun is hanging somewhere, you must be a gun guy, if you are a gun guy, you mst have other guns in the house. If you must display one, take the firing pin out.

Sounds like a nice piece to display. Unfortunately its not such a good idea in the world today. Thats a nice family heirloom you've got there. Don't give some idiot a chance to get it.

Depends who you invite over. If children frequent the house, I'd advise not to do this. They talk, or they themselves can be stupid. About people peeking in, you have to decide that. I am a video gamer, so most of the time the blinds to my house are closed because of glare so no one is looking in. Also don't rule out adults you invite over being idiots. I once had a family friend, who is a doctor, see one of my pistols I left out for cleaning. He exclaimed "Cool, I've never held a gun before!" and picked it up and immediately pulled the trigger. Thank jeebus I had cleared it when I took it out of the safe. I didn't expect that from a man with a professional degree.

I wouldn't. Even a broken or rusted gun seen from the outside is enough bait for a tweeker to break in and grab.

I know a lady that ran a work clothes store in a town that had a sizable tweeker population. She had a double barrel "shotgun" hanging over the register. The gun's barrels were welded steel pipe and other parts were also fake. That didn't stop one of the locals from breaking in and stealing it (that's all that was taken). It was found later when the moron who took it tried to rob someone with it.

So yeah, even the sight of a broken gun is enough to make some idiot want to steal it.

I have a beautiful all figured walnut wood furnature 20" AR-15. I'm tempted to mount it over the fireplace. I don't worry about kids here, the house is childproofed (they are not let inside).

The rifle looks great and doesn't shoot that well, non-freefloat pencil 1/12 retro barrel that flexes too much for bench accuracy.

Old gun cabinet I bought years ago with some of my .22s. In bedroom, can't be seen from outside.

Bought the cabinet from an older Gentleman who made it. Had sold off all his guns because of his age.
