    NEED PRICING HELP

I wasn't sure which forum to ask this question in so here goes....I hope someone can help me with clarification on gun pricing? I purchased a Ruger MKIII HUNTER 22LR Model 10118 several years ago as my very first handgun. Shoots great, I actually took my handgun training with it. LOL I shot better than anyone, go figure

Less than 150 rounds through it and in perfect condition, with the box and everything that came in the box with it and receipts.

I have asked around and because it is off roster I am seeing a wide range of suggested asking prices. I do not want to make a killing on the price, but I don't want to sell so low that someone buys it just to turn around and sell it. Would love to see my baby go to a good home.

Prices told to me range from 500-1600.00. $1600.00 is out of the question for me to ask, I just can't do that as it seems exorbitant. $500 seems too low for off roster and like new. I was thinking 900 OBO? that gives lots of leeway. I would be really embarrassed to be out of line on this. Help please...as I truly do not know what to ask.

Please be kind as I am not a gun person. I carry though, I am in my sixties and just more interested in revolvers. They are simple and I feel much more comfortable handling them. The money I get from this sale will buy me a new revolver with a little more fire power as I get more comfortable shooting larger calibers.
    Thank you all so much

If you can post pics, that will help.

I don't follow that specific gun, but from the limited times I have seen them for sale, I think the asking prices were around $700 to $800. Your plan of $900 OBO seems good. Maybe have a floor price in mind so that you can deal more efficiently with offers.

    Good luck!

PS - I am not close to your age, but I do like revolvers... a lot

Search the CG marketplace going back a year (or two) for others who have sold the same pistol (or very close to the same - i.e. Ruger Mark III Target). Average out their asking price and you'll get an idea what to ask.

GunsAmerica or GunBroker may also help with pricing but since this is off-roster, I'd look at CG as the primer for your asking price.

One more thing: If the pistol is still available, see what the selling price is. Most people (in your position) would ask the same price as if its new (because its off-roster). Some would ask MSRP (and get it).

I would think the hunter model may fetch $800 but I sure wouldn't pay that much

The pics would not upload for me, sorry. They are too large. Will resize and try again.

Searched the marketplace for ya. Here's a couple listings to look at. Keep in mind I have no idea which guns sold unless the listing was labeled as such.

              1. Judging by the price and comments, I'm guessing this didn't sell...

              2. This one sold but he removed the price. I'd PM him and see if he'll shed some light.

              3. Different model than yours. Don't know which is worth more. This gun is still available.

              4. This one appears to have sold in a duplicate listing

That's all I could find. From what I see, maybe a $900 starting price is fair as stated above. Good luck with sale.

              And welcome to Calguns.

                      MSRP $730

Gallery of Guns - online search for guns offered for sale. I picked a Reno zip code because it won't work for any CA zip codes / local sale prohibited.

Around $650 to $700 out the door including taxes and fees at several shops in Reno.

Then figure that your gun is used. Does it have any visible scratches or signs of wear? Extra magazines? A holster?

And then figure that you're selling in CA and it's off Roster.

It's a moderately popular gun, but one of the higher priced versions of the Ruger .22 pistols. The Ruger Mark III Standard with fixed sights and blued finish has a MSRP of $430 on Ruger.com (Out of CA of course)

You can always search current or completed auctions on Gun Broker.com or some online auction house.

If it actually is in perfect condition I would start at $750 and see if it sells. If it doesn't sell, drop the price slowly or fast depending on how much of a hurry you're in to sell it.

There will always be people telling you it's priced too high, it's a haggling technique, try and make you drop you're price faster than you want to. Don't listen.

I wouldn't call you totally insane to start at $900 as you suggested. You never know when you'll run into someone who falls deeply in love with your gun and Has to buy it. Sometimes you get lucky.

Pictures! Take some sharp, in focus, well lit pictures. Get help posting them if you need it. 5 or 6 very good pictures will absolutely help sell your gun. Maybe an extra cleaning and a little wax and polish.

Being willing to drive and hour or more will expand the range of possible buyers. Remember, you only have to drive to a gun store once to deliver for a PPT, buyer has to drive twice in 10 days. Sometimes you can negotiate a higher price for a long drive.

This exactly. Very wise words by CALiberal.

Most of my listings have all sold in a day or less. More than anything else, this is because of pictures. Some people post some blurry pic from 50 feet away and somehow feel content. Do exactly as stated above. Have fun with it and try taking lots of cool angles to see which come out well.

If you need help re-sizing them, I'm happy to do a few for you if I have the time free. I know my way around photoshop pretty well.

Also, I highly suggest starting the price high. People always like to feel like they won. Starting high gives you negotiating room to let them win.

I've sold several guns here, listed them for below market value, and every single time some idiot has still tried to low ball me. Start high and work your way down gradually.

Thank you all, yes, I have started kinda high, yes I am willing to drive two hours to meet and yes, I took fairly decent pics I think. I did have to use my sig link though for the pics because I couldn't get them to load on this site. The nice thing is they come up immediately that way and can be seen even larger.

Thank you all again for the tips.
