What's your favorite OC indoor range and why?

I need to shoot more. I am fifty as of last year, and I'll only be able to say that for another couple months.

My eyes are getting old. I have corrective contacts, and am having a bit of trouble getting conventional black iron front sights in crisp focus, and it really worsens with a long session.

Ironically, I,am interested in making tiny groups with, for example, my .22s.

I upgraded a couple to fiber optics, but inside, it's really hard to get enough light to see them. I broke down and got s fast fire red dot, and it will go on my 22/45.

But what ranges do you OC guys like. I've shot at them all.

Brea range s closest, really close, but their anti CCW signs rub me the wrong way. I don't want to get a membership there because of this.

The FTIME or whatever in Stanton is close enough to work. It's a nice range.

Firing line off the 91 is decent.

What do you guys like? Pistol mostly. Are any really well lit over others? I've never had this problem before, so I haven't really noticed.

I shot at a range in Ventura, it was as nice as field time, target lifting was superb, but the shooting positions aren't really well lit at all.

Ccw/ holster work is a,plus, but I realize this is likely a rare find.

So far I don't like any of them due to dim lights. Yes, I go to indoor ranges, but usually for something specific like testing reloads. For extended shooting I will make the trek to Raagues where I get my own "range" without people next to me (other side of the berm doesn't count as being next to me).

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. The sunlight is perfect for fiber optics.

None of the above. But I have a special dislike for Evans. They try to irritate the customer. 4 lanes of silliness. No room to put your stuff.

And yes, I have been there many times. OnTarget is okay.. Brea is less expensive and the folks are much nicer. (I know you said you didn't like their CCW policy.

Mine was FT3, I haven't been there since the fiasco though, not because I don't want to, but I rather go to a BLM.

Field Time is it for me when I haven't the time for Burro. It's clean with a superb air circulation system. There's that Prestige Hobbies not too far either CG...

It's not exactly OC, but I liked going to Iron Sights in Oceanside. Rapid fire is okay, rifle calibers are okay, and IIRC you can draw from the holster. Obviously much easier to get to if you live in South OC. I haven't been out there in a while though. Most of the shooting that I've been doing has been at Rahaauge's in Corona. Outdoors, private bays, friendly staff. One the more expensive side, but worth it for me.

Good point. Iron Sights is far from me, but is a decent range. Nice, respectful staff.

I have the same problem with aging eyes as you. I normally shoot at On Target for indoor, Burro Cyn or MCB Pendleton for outdoor. I discussed the indoor issues with my eye doctor. He's not a shooter, but seemed knowledgeable about the issues. He suggested a prescription that had set focus 36 inches from my eyes. This would allow clear focus on the front sight and 25yard targets at the same time. It's working great for me. As for outdoor shooting, I use Bob Jones inserts in both rear sights of my NM AR15 and NM M14.

Also, as for holster use, On Target allows holster drawing on certain days/times. You have to look at the calendar to check.

Doesn't Raauhauge's have a time limit? I've always heard that, part of why I haven't gone there.

YES - two hour limit for $30/per person. VERY expensive.

I'm a few years older, had LASIK 10 years ago and have never been happier.
only experience down south at indoor ranges has been the Firing Line Huntington Beach

of the OC indoor ranges I've been to, I'd say FT3 is by far the 'nicest'. Just a good looking facility, good ventilation system, and the target hangers work well.

If you're having trouble seeing the sights, I think FO front is the way to go but those are best used outdoors as you mentioned.
for that, I like Raahauges.
Not the cheapest but if you go during the week you can shoot for hours and hours without anyone really bothering you.

I actually like Evans. They have 7 lanes, plus the Leo side that civilians might be able to use if empty of Leo's.

I go during the week, and, many times have the place to myself. I think that will change since OCSD range a mile away closed to us peon taxpayers.

Can't disagree about employees except to say that there is an awful lot of knowledge from the older guys, and they will answer any questions in detail, many times with some great stories, especially from Skipper who is the gunsmith.

I kinda felt the way you do at first, but after a while they loosened up a bit when they saw I was serious about improving and did my business in a safe manner. Plus I ccw there.
