      I always marinate mine in a low sodium soy sauce / garlic, salt, & parsley concoction....

              Are you in fact referring to this? If so, you better if you want to avoid pitting unless you're cleaning after every outing. Regardless, you need to season your black powder barrels.

                  Forgot about my BP firearms. They are seasoned. Other smokeless powder firearms are not.
                  But before I hunt with them I always fire a couple of rounds to foul the barrels. When done hunting I may clean them but not every time.
                  A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
