Where to get a good gun vice?

Yeah, thats pretty much the only thing I don't have that I need to clean my SKS. Any recommendations in the South Bay Area? (Have been to Reed's Indoor, and SGJE doesn't carry any).

Au contaire! My vices include: Thinking for myself, speaking French, making fun of my own ethnicity's accent and sterotypes, possessing a firearm, and disliking most anime.

Do you dislike the girly annoying stuff, or the little-kid annoying stuff, or (gasp!) do you like that stuff and dislike Hellsing, etc?

            OK
DO you want a twin jaw vise one you can put barrel laws in.

or something that would hold the receiver to barrel an upper kind of contraption ?

Uh...I want gun stand that will hold the rifle up in the air firmly so I don't end up scarring the entire bore if I were to put a rod through the chamber with the rifle sitting on my lap. (BTW, since I plan to clean from the receiver end of the rifle, I don't need a bore guide right?) Yeah, can't be too specific since I haven't seen one myself personally.

OK I thought you ment a vise kind of thing to build and or assamble an AR style rifle at least that is what came to mind.

what your talking about call it a cleaning stand maybe I dunno where you would get that maybe midway or some outfit like that.

                Good Luck.

Yes, when cleaning from the breech end, you need a bore guide...BUT you DEFINITELY don't need or want one for an SKS...it isn't a precision rifle with a custom barrel that you are working with....just clean it from the breech end and you will be fine. I use the MTM plastic one (it isn't a vise, but just a stand)...it is easy to bring to the range too. If you want a vise-type one, check out tipton.

Use a bore-snake kid, otherwise you'll put your eye out.

I'm paranoid of using bore snakes now that I've read horror stories of people scarring their bores from using them. I'll just use the bronze brush attachment.

You can go into the shop and get the number off the wooden rifle vises and order one through them.

I'd give you the number, but I won't be back at the shop till monday.

All I use are boresnakes and my rifles are fine. Where is this paranoia coming from? I would like to hear it for myself.

I use a gun rest of my own making it works for sightin in as well as for cleaning. I have a picture.

I originally made this because I got tired of having to remove my lever action rifle from the rest to cycle it every shot. I made one that adjusts 3" in every direction, that give plenty of room to cycle a levergun.

Well someone posted in Survivor's SKS board that they created gashes in the chrome of their SKSs while cleaning them with a boresnake.

That sounds a little bit farfetched but, who knows? If you get an otis kit, you will have the convenience of multiple calibres and a pull through system.
If it was a snake, it would have bit me.
