Marine / Army Rifle ?

Is the Standard Issue Rifle now days in the Marines/Army the M16A3 or M16A4 ? It looks like it would be a fun Rifle to duplicate. Has anyone made a clone yet ?

Don't know anyone who used the A3. There were a few A2s when I first got in but by the time I got out it was all A4s or M4s.

Not competitive...corporate complacency. I think they got an M4 variant contract recently just to keep them going. The DoD doesn't like to have only one qualified source for something this critical.

FNH beat Colt in the lowest bidder catergory. LoL. Jk...

Mostly M4A1 in both Army and USMC now due to recent type of warfare requirements, some M16A4 still issued as standard infantry weapon.

Since Colt lost the "M4" rights in the court decision, DoD wants multiple manufactories capable of make them.

Mind you the M4 has 14.5" barrel, vs. the 16" ones we encountered on civilian market.

The pic of the FNH rifles there aren't quite right. The rear sight is no longer authorized for use, and ambi safeties have to be approved by the unit. Also, only boots put a rail cover on the top rail.

You're correct as in the past Colt got the contract for M4 and FNH got the 16.

Most of the issued carbines and rifles are still falls into the two mfg. But things are changing as DoD wants more sources for this critical supply.

I carried the equivalent to the M16A1 when I did my military service in Singapore, it was a locally built M16A1 (called M16S1) and it says on the receiver licensed from Colt.

I guess part of the problem for Colt is also that countries like Singapore who used to pay license fees to them, stopped doing so when they switch to bullpup designs.
