Barrels can be relined but that is usually reserved for someone that wants to preserve the stock appearance of the firearm. More common is to just replace a worn out barrel.

Its not worn out, its actually a new barrel but im wildcating the 308 that deals with just the neck of the cartridge.

Oh so you want a smith to ream the neck longer or wider? That's no problem. Making it shorter or narrower would require cutting the whole chamber deeper, thus shortening the total barrel length.

Altering the chamber dimensions (headspace, shoulder angle, neck length, throat length, throat angle is usually called reaming or re-chambering, and it is common. All you really need is a lathe and the correct reamer/cutter.

Altering the bore dimensions (lands and groove diameter, twist rate) is a lot less common, and costs a lot, like Russ suggested. That may involve a gun drill and rifling machine. You'd be better off replacing the whole barrel if you want to do that. Simpler, cheaper, cleaner results.

Its actually a larger caliber bullet in a 308 case so the entire barrel will need to be rebored. Either that or get a barrel blank for the correct caliber size and work to AR308 action. Either way, still pricing the cost for both methods and who would do it.

Cool. What is the new bullet diameter?

It's cheaper to buy a caliber specific barrel blank than to re-bore a standard barrel. Re-boring is typically only done when the barrel has an unusual profile or accessories like a quarter rib, integral sight island, stepped profile, barrel bands for slings or sights, etc..

Rebore costs run $250 - 300 in standard calibers and you will still have to pay to get the chamber cut.

I don't know of anyone in California doing it but these companies have great reputations:

It'll be a 40cal bullet but since its harder to find long ogive bullets in 40 cal, i got a guy from another forum to help build me a die to make jacketes bullets for it.

Fjold, i kind of saw that as well but i just wanted to see the price difference between the two.
