    Best Gun Values Price Guide?

    Hello,

I am considering selling a few firearms, and wondered what the most accurate reference is for valuation purposes? What is the most widely used and generally accepted?

The ones I have come across in my searches are:

    "Blue Book of Gun Values,"

"The Official Gun Digest Book of Guns and Prices," and

"Standard Catalog of Firearms - The Collector's Price and Reference Guide."

Of course, each of one these comes out with a new edition annually, and I think at least a couple are set to release in April with the 2016 editions. I am just not sure which one to get that will give me the most accurate/accepted value.

Any assistance or knowledge on this subject is appreciated.

    Thanks!

No matter what book you use as a guide, the price is more dependent on the market you're selling in than what the book says. There are guns in Ca that fetch more than the same gun would nearly everywhere else.

You got to "feel" the market...
      SUPPLY: Long Guns Handguns
      DEMAND: WTB
      Long live CALGUNS!

      Selling: ✮ GLOCK ✮ Beretta ✮ SIG Sauer ✮ Stuff ✮

There is no better way to determine value in CA than watching the Calguns marketplace. Don't just check asking prices, focus on sold guns. Then find the
        value based on both figures.

If you can't find enough info here, try gunbroker for a general idea - keeping in mind those guns do not reflect CA premium pricing.

What are you looking to sell? Some of us who watch the marketplace can lend a hand and chime in.
        iTrader: 52 transactions, 100% positive.

Those books have ZERO value in assessing gun prices in a restricted state like CA and I doubt if they mean anything outside either.

Look at for sales ads and see what you have is selling for.

Treat these as nothing more than a reference or guide. Real world selling price is based on the market. You can always ask a higher price and come down, but not he other way (atleast not on CG).

Completed sales on Gunbroker and CGN. I don't bother much with blue books anymore.

Thanks for all the information - although some of the guns can be sold in CA now (ex: a Colt Python early 80's bright stainless 4" barrel), some can't due to the fact that they are non-transferrable within CA ("assault weapon" legally possessed and registered in CA with the DOJ prior to the 1991 deadline). That is why I was asking about the guides, because there is no reference for price in CA, and I will have to transfer to an out of state dealer to sell. IS there a good "market" price reference for such items?

Gunbroker seems like a good reference.

For AW's, unless you have something unobtainable or rare, the out of state price is probably not going to be worthwhile.

Are there any particular out of state AW dealers that I could talk to in order to figure out an out of state price? Any that CG members have dealt with before?
