I need some advice to consider when possibly replacing my BCG. I have a Ruger AR 556 that is chambered in obviously 556. But is that stock BCG "factory fitted" or are BCGs things that are swappable? Does headspace need to be checked with the new BCG? Sorry if my questions are noob-ish, I'm new to the AR world. Also what are some really good brands of BCGs? Thanks.

Technically, you should. But in reality, many many people don't do it and end up fine, using quality parts. I replaced a BCG and didn't check, just plug and played.It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.Comment

Daniel Defense, Spikes Tactical, BCM. Can't go wrong. Personally I prefer M16 BCGs over AR-15 BCGs but really it doesn't make any difference.iTrader: 52 transactions, 100% positive.Comment

Riflegear (one word) is a great vendor, so is Rainierarms. Their basic BCG is Daniel Defense I believe, or equivalent. I've bought basic uppers from Rgear that came in a DD box! Things could be different now, I dunno. BCM, DD, Rainiers "basic" are all good choices. You don't need to spend a ton of money, just a good reputable brand.
Take the new BCG & your upper to a shop & have them check the headspace. When you get to know vendors, a lot of times they'll do small things for free. Very important, get it checked. NEVER assume it's all good because it's "milspec" etc. Your face & your fingers are worth more than 20$Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!Comment

You could also just get a spare bolt, firing pin, and cam pin instead. Primary Arms has the DD bolt for about $65Comment
