So I've been browsing these private sales sections and noticed the price gap between the gen 3s and 4s are considerably large... And I may have seen that these are backordered? Are they hard to find? Preferences and opinions on the gen 4s vs gen3s? Looking to get a 19 but not sure which one.

Glock 19 Gen 4

Unlike a Gen 3 Glock which you can buy from a dealer, unless you are law enforcement or have a parent/grandparent/child/grandchild who lives out of state - the only way you are going to get a Gen 4 Glock is buying from a private seller who is a CA resident.
Gen4 are very popular - the higher price that buyers are willing to pay should tell you that. People vote with their dollars, and plenty of people vote Gen 4. Gen 4 Glock 19 and 26 may be the fastest selling guns on the private market in CA, so they are hard to find for sale. If you have large hands the Gen 3 is just fine.Last edited by SkyHawk; 02-09-2016, 9:56 PM. -
Try to find a friend that has a gen4 and shoot it. Compare with your gen3 and see if the difference is worth the premium.Lifetime NRA member.

Theres nothing wrong with gen 3s just because gen 4s exist. In fact, gen 3s are more "combat" tested. The only reason to get a gen 4 is if you truly have a problem with the gen 3 grip - gen 4 gives you backstrap choices.
Beyond that, I'd get a gen 3. One of the greatest machines ever designed - simple and effective. It'll never fail you.iTrader: 52 transactions, 100% positive.Comment

No reason to get a gen4. Most people don;t even dick with the backstops supplied. Total waste.Comment

Gen 4's are extremely rare in CA because they are off list and Glocks in general are very popular, the 19 being probably the most popular model. So expect to pay the cost of 2 or so gen 3's for a gen 4. The price will probably continue to go up.Comment

Just so you know...in free states like Utah where I am located...the difference in price between a gen 3 and gen 4 (at my gun shop, anyway) is about $50. Most people don't use the backstraps like roostersgt stated so its a moot point. You do get 3 mags with a gen 4...but glock mags arent expensive anyway. I would just buy a gen 3. The prices you have to pay for a gen 4 in Cali arent worth the premium.Comment

IMO unless you gotta have that gen 4 i would pass no way i would pay double for that gun when a gen 3 is already proven.
Now a glock 40 possibly.Comment
