    Stack-on wall mounting question

I have a very specific spot where I would like to put my stack on 8gun security cabinet. There's only one wall stud available, and its right about in the middle of the cabinet between the pre-drilled holes that are 16" apart.

In this scenario, I have seen suggestions to mount 2x4s horizontally on the wall behind the cabinet, then mount the cabinet to those. Could I instead just drill new holes in the cabinet (one at the top and one at the bottom) then mount it to the one available stud?

My other alternative is to put this thing in the garage, which I don't really want to do.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I would want my cabinet as close to the wall as I could get it.
Keeps people from prying it away and carrying it off so easily.

Drill if need be, reinforce the screws or bolts holding the locker to the wall.
Use some thicker plates cut 2"x2" or so to increase the holding power of the fastener you use. Kinda like a home made washer

If you can easily drill through it, how secure do you feel leaving your stuff in it?

Drill new holes, use big washers on the inside and long lag bolts... Don't space it away with from wall it makes it easy to get behind with crowbar etc... And while it's not a real safe it still requires tools and time to break into... Maybe some concrete anchors in the bottom as well? Atlas it will take determination to steal or break into it.

I'd drill new holes and keep it as close to the wall as possible. Bolt it to the floor as well and it should be secure enough that it won't be removable. Someone would have to break into it where it is.

I agree keep it against the wall. It makes it a lot harder to get something behind it to pry with. Use some three inch lag bolts with some large fender washers. Three would be better, one near the top one near the bottom and one in the middle. If you have access to a hammer drill, one thru the bottom into the concrete helps also. If your garage has all the tools a person would need to open it it's not a good idea to put it there. You can't stop a determined thief but you can slow him down long enough to catch him. Cameras and a house alarm help also.

Is there some reason you can't move your cabinet 8 inches to the side? You could drill a new hole in the middle. The screws are pretty much just there to keep it from falling over in an earth quake. Those stack-on's are about as strong as tin foil...

Yes, the space is a 24" wide nook, with walls on either side. I could probably anchor the back of the cabinet and one of the sides since it will be flush to both.

How would I secure it to a concrete floor? I'm not super handy so any suggestions are appreciated.

Look I know the capabilities of this flimsy cabinet and I am just starting out with a 10/22. If someone really wants to pry this thing out of the wall over a 10/22 then be my guest. If I get more (and more expensive) guns in the future, I will upgrade to a real safe.

Get a drill and drill a hole in bottom of the safe slightly bigger than the bolt you want to use. Use the hole to mark the concrete floor. Remove the safe and drill the correct size hole for a redhead. A readhead is a threaded insert that goes in the hole. They come in many sizes and you can buy them at Lowes or Home Depot. It will tell you on the package what size bolt it uses and what size hole to drill for it to work correctly. A 3/8 in X 2 inch bolt with a large washer should work fine. Buy a good grade 8 bolt. I think you will need a 1/2 or 9/16 inch drill bit but it will tell you on the package. You will need to borrow a hammer drill and a concrete bit. Some home handyman drills have a setting for hammerdrill. They are not real efficent but you are only drilling one hole. be paitent. You probably have a friend that has one and is handy with tools. A few beers should help with that.
