Want a non-CA version AR. Can my FFL in CA add the bullet button?

I found the AR I have been coveting on sale at an online wholesaler. It doesnt have the bullet button. Will/can they ship it to my local FFl and then have them add the bullet button?

You can always use an out of state intermediary FFL who can make it CA compliant and send to your local FFL.

Make sure it is not a lower that is listed as an AW, some are named and it doesn't matter if it has a BB. I say this because it is coming from out of state.

            No.

It needs to be made CA legal prior to being imported into CA.

It is illegal for a CA FFL dealer to receive an assault weapon, unless they have an assault weapons permit (CA DOJ Dangerous Weapons Permit for assault weapons).

If the CA FFL dealer does not have an assault weapons permit, then they will need to refuse the shipment and/or immediately return it to the sender.

If the CA FFL dealer does have an assault weapons permit, then they can only transfer it to a person with a valid Dangerous Weapons Permit for assault weapons or to a Gov/Mil/LE agency.

If they make the assault weapon into a non-assault weapon, then it is grounds to have their assault weapons permit revoked.

Thanks Quiet. That puts a damper on it. :-(

Hmm...there must be a recommended list of FFLs that do this.

Gun is cheap enough to go this route.

There's a member here who lives in NV and I recall he does the mag blocking, and he might be able to add the BB. Unfortunately I can't recall his screen name right now. But as soon as it comes back to me, I'll post it up for you.

Okay, it's not NV, it's AZ. His screen name is audiophil2. Maybe send him a PM and ask.

I recommend EBR Works out of Prescott, AZ. Pricing is right, they ship fast, and are GTG.

Do you ever ask yourself if all the hassle is worth it?

Im glad I have time on my side and its sale price will make it worthwhile.

Have you tried talking to the wholesaler and seeing if they'll install the mag lock and ensure you only get 10-round magazines? I had some really good relationships with out of state wholesalers, and got into a rhythm where I'd find a gun I want, buy the mag lock and mags myself, ship to the wholesaler, they'd do the install (sometimes they'd charge $20 or $30 for it) and then ship to my FFL. Worked out really well once everyone got educated on what they could and couldn't do.

Good info as I did not know that . . . thought CA FFL could make compliant.
