    Really amazing.

I was away on business for months in Asia, Canada, and Australia. I came home to LA in between just to check on my place. Then I was off again, I was gone for around 5 months without visiting any of my local watering holes (bars, Starbucks, etc.).

I know the people that work at the establishments rather well and they know I am into firearms. They have never spoken to me about firearms before, but I walked into a local coffee shop that has free WiFi (I go on gun sites there sometimes) and I walked in and around 5 employees come up to me and ask to speak with me in private, I know them all by first name and we are all on a very friendly basis.

At this point I am kind of weirded out - they take me to the side and say, "Hey nice to see your back in town, we were all talking and we decided with Obama and getting elected and the economy that it would be a wise idea to pick up some guns. We wanted your opinion on what to get and what stores in this area have good prices?"

I was amazed, most of these people have never even held a gun before and they were young, 19-25 years of age. I gave them a crash course in firearms, told them to go to the range and take a lesson or two, it is also an enjoyable sport, explained the difference between a shotgun, rifle, and pistol, told them to follow the law and read up on the laws, those sorts of things - I am by no means a professional so I did not tell them to go out and buy _______, also a gun is only as good as its shooter.

I was really shocked, because they would engage me in every other kind of conversation from sex to shoes - but they would always avoid the topic of firearms.

Sign of the times I guess, its nice to see this in LA with the youth - at least some people are thinking ahead for the 'just in case'.

Think unemployment will reach 10 percent? I've been traveling a lot myself to the same places and do worry about the security of my place a bit more than I used to. My neighbor looks after it,but still...

the whole idea of the mania or insecurity is not something that seems real to me. Perhaps that is because I seem to be living in Australia a lot lately. It does seem odd to come back to see that shopping is slow and that a lot of small non-essential businesses like restaurants and gyms are closing up all over. It would seem that Canada/AUS is about to slow down any day now...how is the climate in Asia?

Funny story. Several close friends and co-workers of mine have recently gone out to purchase firearms themselves. And not just cheap-o shotguns or rifles... I'm talking top of the line semi-auto shotguns, rifles, and a few handguns.
I found it really funny, as most of them always made fun of me for stocking up on any ammo and firearms I could afford. Guess they finally realized that it's better to be safe than sorry.

I had a 65 year old lady who hasn't touched a gun in over 50 years ask me how she could buy a handgun.

We have seen steadily increasing sales to new shooters for over a year now. Generally, they have been to people who are increasingly concerned about rising crime in their neighborhoods.

Since the election, though, things have really picked up It seems people are preparing for absolute catastrophy. The comments we hear are about how the economy is collapsing, people can't get jobs, home invasion robberies are now occurring in "safe" neighborhoods, etc. These are comments from people we haven't seen before, not our regulars. One guy came in and said he needed a pistol, rifle, shotgun, a case of ammo for each, and training for all three. He didn't care about cost, his major concern was being prepared.

Lots of gloom and doom out there, from my perspective.

People are more motivated by the thought of a loss than a gain. When people see that their right to own a gun might be taken away, even when they never thought about owning one, they feel the need to own one because they think they won't be able to own one in the future.

Yup. The bad economy, high unemployment, plus the rise in crime may make it appear to many that SHTF is coming soon to a neighborhood near them!

I'm just giggling for when the rush is over, and the worry is gone, and BHO is out of office....then millions of great used gun deals will be flooding the stores

Funny that you bring this up because I was thinking the same thing a couple of weeks after the elections..

Be prepared to wait eight years. The same people who voted for BHO this time will do it again. By that time he'll have enough liberals on the SCOTUS to overturn Heller and declare the 2A null and void.

I apreciate the effort to "shake up" the genre, but let's try to keep to, running vs shambling zombies and everyone will be happy. This was just too much liberty with the George Romero standards. Don't be fooled as I was, this is the worst zombie movie ever!

In the LA area, go to LAX. Only indoor range I feel safe at. Rent a .45 Glock, you can trade it in for no cost for a .45 1911.
