    Mag release question

If a gun were Ca. legal in every respect ,except for the mag release, could an out of state FFL remove the mag release so no mag could be attached and an AK RADDlock installed upon arrival ? Seems if you couldn't attach a mag you couldn't DE-tach one either.

I am assuming that you mean a rifle with evil features that would require a mag lock to make it compliant. This has been discussed before. You could still hold the mag in position with your hand, fire the rifle and then remove it without a tool. Not legal. Stupid but true.

So are you asking if there's NO magazine release mechanism being ok? Then ship this mutant rifle to CA and install a raddlock on it to comply with 12276.1?

I'm imagining that would be importation of an AW if it's mailed to you, and i doubt any FFL here would receive it.

The mutant rifle without a mag release doesn't really matter because a cop could put the magazine in place and remove it by hand..it may not hold when inserted, but that's not the point...it COMES out freely..that's what matters.

What would work is the following: You ship them an AK Raddlock or Jumbopanda style magazine lock and they install it at their location prior to shipping it out to your transfer FFL in CA. Your AK must be in a 100% CA legal configuration prior to crossing the state line into CA.

Since the OP never stated what type of rifle was involved there is one other option. If the rifle is an AK, you could have the out of state seller/dealer remove the PG and any other evil features and then ship it to your FFL. Once transferred, you could attach a mag lock and then reinstall the evil features.
