Can the flowchart really save me?

I am not so sure that pulling out a laminated flowchart or having it printed on your t shirt will convince an officer that my AR is legal... mainly becuase I am presenting it to them, not thier superiors. In their eyes, how trustworthy can I be?

The CA AW ID Flowchart really is a fine piece of work but in the eyes of LEO's and the DOJ, is it legit? Have they ever acknowledged it's credibility?
    Dear California,
I love you. I was born and raised in you. You have given me some of the best times of my life. Now with that said, I can not wait to move!

You already know the answer to this question.

Once they have their paws on your weapon, the odds are VERY stacked against you. You might never be convicted, but you will surely spend a lot of money on lawyers to defend yourself, and you may never get your weapon back; regardless of whether or not you have the flowchart.

It will only help if they are willing to listen. Some will, some won't.
If you don't have it and they are willing to listen your SOL. If you do have it and they don't care then whats the harm?
My suggestion is to have as much as possible available just in case.

In full disclosure, I keep a copy of the flowchart and the Sac PD letter in all my weapon cases, and my safes. However, by no means do I have any confidence that those documents will get me out of a jam, so I have the "right people's" digits on speed dial.

The flow chart can really help the LEO figure out how to use his Penal Code book and includes the key language from the CCR. The Sac PD memo really should be effective though.

That's what is pathetic. Some officers don't give a **** about you, or the big blue book. Even when presented with the actual law, they'll feign ignorance and take you in anyways. An officer who is willing to ignore the flowchart is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

The flowchart can help you point the officer in the right direction but wont save you if someone is determined to remain ignorant.

Thank you Jicko. I really don't understand why some folks are that worried about OLL's and still insist on having them. If you are not ready to dance when the music starts, don't go to the club. Remember that it is up to each of the 58 DA's to determine if a gun is an AW. Out of all the thousands and thousands of OLL's, we have yet to hear of someone being convicted of having a properly configured OLL. It will cost you money and maybe a couple of days in jail to prove that you did not do anything illegal but that is the price to pay if you have an OLL until each LEA in the state gets in the same page.

The flowchart itself won't save your hide. However, knowing the contents and the background information that's contained and condensed onto the flowchart very proficiently might just have the desired effect. Just in case that it doesn't, you should always have a lawyer on speed dial.

Once you're in lock up you will not have access to your speed dial.
Either memorize it or whoever your phone call is made to should have it.

I leave copies of this letter along with the flow chart in my safe, car and range bags just incase. What does it hurt? Atleast you gave it a shot to prevent a big mess.
