Well, the sten and bazooka don't belong on that list.

Article is stupid. Apache seems to have a folding trigger so not likely to dischage by accident. And 9x19 fired from a SMG bounces off targets? Well maybe a tank.

What a stupid list. The sten and bazooka? Since when did the gyrojet "enter service"?

Hell, one of the reviews for the book sums it up
I would have thought I would have learned my lesson by now with their series of "the World's Worst" but I got suckered into buying this at a local store due to its extremely low price.

Well, you get what you pay for.....

To be fair, there are a couple of valid entries - perhaps half of them, however there are a number that just absolutely boggle my mind.

Antitank Rifles: These weapons were effective against tanks until the tanks got better armor and at that point, there were only good against softer skinned vehicles. It hardly makes them a "Worst" weapon, just one that became antiquated.

Bazooka: First of all it states it gave "marginal anti-armor" capability to infantry". At 30 degree slope, the M1 firing a M6 round could penetrate an average of 80mm of armor. This is actually strong enough to penetrate the majority of armored vehicles in existence at the time. It then mentions a big draw back as being the back blast. News flash, that is the byproduct of almost all recoilless rifles.

AK47: "its recoil is unpleasant (I've never fired a machine gun whose recoil was a joy) but then goes onto say it's incredibly robust and almost totally idiot-proof design. Huh???

Tasers: "the reloading takes too long to be viable in combat" Well ok since it's not designed to be used in combat I'm not sure of the point the author is trying to make. I guess the cops should go back to shooting suspects?????

Type 89 Grenade Discharger (aka Knee-Mortar): The only reason this is included (per the author) is because when some of these were captured by the Allies, they assumed it was to be fired from the knee (and ended up breaking legs). Quote: "Used properly it was actually a fairly decent weapon". Seriously???? This has been added because some idiot used it in a way it was not designed for??????? Can anybody name a weapon that if used improperly make a decent weapon?????

And the one entry that truly shocked me: Ju-87 Stuka. For those of us in reality land the Ju-87 was the finest dive bomber at the beginning of the war and certainly in the top 5 for the entire period. The only reason this has been included is "..but when sent into hostile skies over England, where air superiority was anything but guaranteed, they suffered heavy losses." If you look at the loss rates of the B-17 & B-24's while flying unescorted missions into Germany, the loss rate is not that much different. So these should be included as well? If this truly is the sole criteria, then the entire book could be filled with bombers. Oddly, the book does not mention any Japanese bombers who suffered far worse losses then the Stuka did for the same reason.

He-177: "most losses were due to engine problems or fires"" - no it wasn't read Smith & Kays "German Aircraft of the Second World War"

P-39: "failed as a fighter". 4 of the top 5 Russian aces shot down quite a lot of aircraft flying this "failed fighter".
And on and on and on......

The book is extremely poorly researched and I am surprised having read some of his other books that Mr. Dougherty has put out garbage of this level. This is by far the worst of the "The World's Worst.." books. It's sad that trees had to die for this.

Love it, the bazooka's major failing is the flare might giveaway your position when firing? Seriously? Did he expect soldiers were using it for sniping or covert ops? I'm pretty sure if it's time to use a bazooka, you're in deep doo doo!

I'm not familiar with the mechanics of the Apache, but it looks like when used as brass knuckles the user has to point the barrel of the gun at himself or remove the "gun" parts! Must have been entertaining to watch though!

Bazooka, if anything, was one of the greatest inventions in WW2.
It gave infantry a fighting chance against armored vehicles from distances.

Before the era of rocket launchers, infantry were forced to use close in attacks with molotov cocktail or satchel charge, which is near suicidal facing well coordinated enemy.

The gyrojet as a firearm was a flop, and never adopted. But they were issued as flare launchers in USAF aircrew survival kits for many years during the '60s-'70s.
"Did I say "republic?" By God, yes, I said "republic!" Long live the glorious republic of the United States of America. Damn democracy. It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook Pegler
