Table top vice for working on shotgun

I would like to get some recommendations for a table top vice that will be used for light gun smithing and work on my shotgun (Benelli Supersport) and also a AR-15 (Windham Weaponry).

The main focus is the shotgun, it is a semi-auto that needs it recoil spring replace, however, the recoil spring retainer plug is screwed on very tight and possibly with loctite too. I tried heating the retainer nut with a bic lighter but without a vice, I can't get a good enough grip t loosen the nut.

The vice need not be heavy duty, it just needs to hold the shotgun without damaging the receiver and it will be good enough.

I might use it later for working on my AR too, like changing the trigger assembly, so something that will work for both would be good.

    Thanks.

I have no garage so I have a very light duty one like this that has worked pretty well. But if you have a garage or similar a good bench vise worth the investment for something decent.

Thanks, this looks interesting, I'll hop over to home depot on the weekend to check it out. I do have a garage but I don't have a workbench in it. One of my previous employer closed their big office during the dot-com bust days and I grabbed many nice cabinets which I put in the garage and use as storage. Down side is that the garage is now a little cramped.

I have a large and fairly sturdy desk which seems to get used a lot more for gun work than paper work. I like this cause I can just attach the vice to the desk when I need it and then pull it off to store it. It works. But I'd love to have a bigger, permanent setup. You should clean out the garage a bit.

This one has served me well over the years. Mine, however, is almost 20 years old. I can't really speak to the quality of what is produced today.

I have the 6" HF vise. I gets beat on pretty good and still holds up
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

My only suggestion is to make sure the vise you buy has removable jaws. You can replace with metal, plastic or wood jaws that you buy or make.
