I miss the old snipershide. Got some great deals in the marketplace and enjoyed the site overall.Comment

When it comes to buying and selling on a forum, ARFcom is hard to beat. As far as info, like ANY forum, you've got to vet the information that's passed on. You start to get a feel for who's talking out their butt and who knows what they're talking about.
However, if you want a slightly more personal and friendly place, Calguns is still it. I guess as prisoners of this dictatorship known as California, we tend to circle wagons here.NRA Benefactor Life Member

The only thing CGN has over ARFCOM is the 2A forums and the ability to view in iPhone mode so you can skip over all the avatars and signature blocks. That software they use on ARFCOM is really old and mobile unfriendly.
The content is unmatched, though. Just compare CGN's Optics forum vs ARFCOM's, as an example.Comment

I miss it too.
No search (well, there is a google search bar, but it searches the entire site).
No thread subscriptions.
No email notifications.
So I can't search the archives for info.
I can't search the classifieds.
I can't keep track of the threads I posted it.
It's terrible.Comment

I feel you. I hate to admit it, but I preferred hanging there than over here. Big boy talk, not many Jack offs, honest marketplace... Oh well, at least Calguns is "local"I miss it too.

That is all true, except for the New Users response.I find AR15.com is not the place for me. Here it usually takes 10 posts before someone starts bickering. There it is like the second post.
New user: "So I'm looking for a good AR Platform for a Home Defense AR"
AR15 Crowd: "Save and buy a LMT or Noveske. Nothing else will do when your life defends on it"
AR15 Crowd: "Don't listen to him, you can do just fine with a M&P or Off Brand Model"
AR15 Crowd: "Your crazy to buy when building is the way to go. See my list of mismatched parts below. Did it all for $490"
AR15 Crowd: "All 3 of you are nuts. OP should buy a Colt. I bought a Colt and I need re-affirmation that what I bought is the right choice"
AR15 Crowd: "What are you guys talking about!
. OP you need to take a class before you do anything.
"
AR15 Crowd: "AR for Home defense is a BAD idea
. Over penetration all day long
Get a shot gun preferably a 870 pump. The click is all you need"
AR15 Crowd: "OP don't listen to any of these Mall Ninjas. You need this specific barrel, upper, lower, trigger, bolt, charging handle, grip, etc"
AR15 Crowd: "What kinda light and laser you gonna run? It's all about the light and laser"
Ar15 Crowd: " You're nuts. Never put a light or laser. I want a the element of surprise when I clear a room"
New User: "Ahhh thanks guys. Does anyone know if Calguns is accepting new members"

And umm, I guess you don't spend much time in our own Semiauto forum here lol. Same exact thing happens EVERY THREAD.
I like Arfcom because the majority of the membership is so much more free and positive. Not trying to insult us but we get the **** kicked out of us by the nazis in Sacramento/SF/LA on a yearly basis. In other parts of the country, conservatives actually make gains and retake liberties stolen by liberal statists over the last century.
Its not fair to say that most of them will pounce on us. Ive been part of the group in many threads over there with CA as my location. But I didn't whine or draw negative attention to my situation, i just joined in the discussions and tried to be friendly while making it very well known that I was not a CA wussy bending over for Sacramento. As they say, Sound off like you got a pair and youll fit right in!
OP, you'll love Arfcom. I was a member there before I came here (and Im still active over there btw). Its harder to find a niche there just because there are SOOOO many more forums and members that its hard to become a regular anywhere, but if you stick to a few areas you'll make friends. Ive posted quite a bit in the AK forum there and Im sure you will find areas that interest you.
The off topic there (general discussion) is like our own OT but on bath salts. Waaay crazier, moves much faster (I can refresh a page in 10 minutes and not see a single thread that was there just 10 minutes ago) and sooo crowded that its nearly impossible to make friends in the GD area.Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. I've been on Arf a lot longer than this site. Never had an issue over there. Act like a dummy, you'll get slammed pretty hard. Just as many posers, new shooters & mall ninjas on Arf. They just seem to get weeded out quicker. I had more difficulty signing up on CG.Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!Comment

The sub forums are a better place then General, plus they have the home town forums. If you don't want to deal with all the crazies as they are heavily moderated. Talk smack in the home town forums and you'll get the ban hammer, all the CA BS is in GD or OT forums.
The Equipment Exchange is a great place to find parts at good prices as there's so many people on the site. As stated above, they don't tolerate people not paying or posting BS.
If you have Time Warner you should have a Road Runner account? That's what I used when I signed up. I'm a Mod in the 50 Forum, if you still have problems PM me and I'll see what I can do to help you out.50 BMG Shooters http://50-bmg.com/forum/index.phpComment
