Need help with a mouse gun!

Say you had to carry a very small gun for whatever reason, and I know allot of people would rather use a stick and throw stones but for the sake of argument what would you rather carry!

A Beretta 25 Auto with nine rounds of ammo or a 22 Mag High Standard derringer. Think of it as a Back Up Gun. I would rather have the 25 Auto. You have nine shots and less power over two shots with more power and penetration from the 22 Mag. We are talking very short distance, 20 feet or less. I have carpal tunnel and trigger finger and the small 22 mag pains me to shoot it while the 25 is pleasant. Also faster reload with the 25!

This requirement has come up in one of my retired activities and I would appreciate your input.

I like the NAA mini-revolver, it is truly tiny. One can conceal it most anywhere, and it has a very small magnetic "footprint".

Sounds like you answered it yourself. You need to be good with whatever you carry. That means practice. With a small round, placement is even more critical.

Just remember that the .25 Auto is WEAKER than most .22 LR loadings. If you're going to carry a small Beretta .25 Auto, you might as well opt for the .22 LR. Same overall size, slightly more power.

I love my Walter PPK 380. It hides very nice inside the pant with a Tee shirt pulled over it or would also do fine in a pancake. I would not use any 25 for a back up after seeing a round bounce off a leather wallet. Like Neo said a 22 LR has more power than the 25. -g

x1 to that. The only thing the 25's got against the good ol 22lr is the .030" difference in diameter. If you ask me about the 25auto, I'd say it's a waste of lead/copper/brass and powder. It's like one of those things were it should have never been born.

Seecamp in 32 ACP is a nice small package with less recoil than their 380 ACP model.

The 25 ACP is often recommended over the 22 LR since the centerfire is a bit more reliable than a rimfire. My 22 LR Walther THP works well with Stingers with no failures to fire.

I'd probably get a Taurus 94, charter arms or a Smith and Wesson Model 63

Try to find a Chief special ,38 little more power & very reliable. I wouldn't have a .25 Auto if my life is on the line.

                          .25s feed better than .22lrs.

As far as distance goes, I won't trust a NAA or O/U derriger past about 3 yards. At 25 feet, I can consistantly shoot 6" groups with my 950 in .25acp or mt 21As in .22lr. I like NAAs (I have 3 and a couple of derringers, too) but, they have a much shorter distance between the sights and grips that are harder to keep control of. If you plan on getting a carry gun, think a little bigger and get a KARH or even a sub-compact 1911. Then, you don't have to worry so much about knock down power.

The .25 ACP has many advantages over the .22LR. First and foremost, it is centerfire. Second, it uses inside lubricated or jacketed ammo. Third, it is rimless (well, more or less), and therefor has fewer problems functioning in an automatic pistol. All of these sound like big advantages to me. Lots of people look down on the .25, but if I had to carry a little pistol, I would pick it over .22LR in a heart beat. And the Berettas are good, reliable little guns. I have the older model with the tip-up barrel, and it is a great, albeit very small pistol. But for across the table, or across the room, I would use it over a derringer in a larger caliber any day of the week. Better to have a functional smaller weapon that can fire rapidly, than an awkward gun that you have to cock after each shot, has a goofy trigger, and hurts to shoot. And despite what everybody says about the .25 not doing much damage, I have yet to find any volunteers willing to be shot with it.

-Mb (who would personally rather have a .32 or larger caliber revolver as a hold out gun)
