I've stuck to buying online, but have found these prices to be insane.
You shouldn't be buying ammo from the range unless you're renting their firearm, because they have a rule that you have to buy their ammo when you rent. I just chalk it up as part of the rental fee if I want to try out a gun I'm thinking about buying.

Why would anyone buy ammo at the range (outside of "mandatory" rentals) is beyond me...

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I've also noticed that if the range is attached to a gun store, ammo prices for the same brand of ammo are different inside the range vs inside the gun store. Some of these places don't even try to hide the gouging and they don't have to. I only buy their ammo when I rent their firearm, which is very infrequently

Mine charges close to double what you'd think the normal price would be.

Needless to say we just don't go there, period.
Cheap bastards want to sell your brass or they had too many customers loading up brass (theirs or not) for resale. Brass left behind by those who do not want the brass is part of the range's income. You are entitled to your own brass most everywhere.

Angeles Shooting Range in So Cal is famous for brass thievery by Range Officers who are mostly high school aged kids acting like pissed off Navy Seals. They stand behind you and grab your brass No matter how many times you tell the little jerks that you want to keep the brass. A lot of us do not go there any more

They are paranoid about any steel/aluminum cases getting into the piles. They also want to keep anybody from shooting steel nose ammo because it can hurt their backstop.

In the old days, they made everybody unload all their magazines. I used to hide mine in the bottom of my bag and just carries a couple of boxes of FMJ ammo on top to have something they could go through.

Reeds used to let you pick up YOUR OWN brass if you marked the back with a sharpie. But they don't let anybody pick up other brass because it's $$$ for them to sell.

Jackrabbits and lizards don't make good ammo vendors. I tend to bring my own.

                        Which city/county?

Our range usually charges about 50% premium on ammo.
Saw some recently at $24.99 for 50 rds Fed, 9mm - high.

                              Free.

Ok, I should explain this a little, and its a nice story to share. This is the Los Altos range that I like to take new shooters to, or when wife and I want to shoot our pistols/AR-15. My brother from Singapore visited me sometime ago, my 3 nephews came along, one is 8 years old.

I took them all to Los Altos, the nephews loved it, good for them to get some real trigger time as they will need to serve in the military when they turn 18, their father and I served so its a nice tradition to have.

I thought I could let the 8 year old shoot if I mount the AR-15 on a stand/mount thinggy but the range officers felt that it might be too much gun for him. They did something that amazed me. The range officers went and got a .22LR rifle and gave me half a box of .22LR ammo for free so that my 8 year old nephew can shoot that day! One of them even stayed with my nephew and taught him the basics of safety and how to cock the bolt action .22LR rifle. Wow! Can your range beat that?

This reminds me, I need to go buy a .22LR rifle. While wife and I might not use it much, it is useful if we happen to bring new shooters to the range. An obvious oversight which I will fix soon....

My range is not bad at all, but I'm in MN. They sometimes have 9mm for $12.99--$13.99/50, and decent 22LR around 8-9 cents a round. I can still buy ammo cheaper elsewhere, but the prices are pretty good if you want to rent a gun. Gun rentals are $10, and sometimes they have events where rentals are $5. The downside is that annual memberships at indoor ranges here run around $600-$700.
